Ttc with supplements/vitamins with pcos

Postby LiamsMommy » Sat Apr 06, 2013 12:23 pm

Hi all, I'm brand new to ttc on herbs/vitamins. I have pcos and have like 3 periods a year without taking metformin. I was on metformin 2000mg/day for almost 2 years with no bfp's, so i gave it up. Now I'm trying vitex, soy isoflavones, wild yam, evening primrose oil, maca, fertility blend sp-1, b complex, and folic acid. I haven't had a period in 3 months though, so I'm going to my Obgyn in a couple days to get back on metformin and possibly progesterone(?) to get my period ASAP so I can start my herbs. Can anyone tell me if how I plan on taking them sounds ok?

Vitex all cycle except during menstruation
B complex all cycle
Folic acid all cycle
Maca all cycle except during menstruation
Evening primrose oil cd1-O
Wild yam cd1-O
Soy isoflavones cd 3-10
Fertility blend sp-1 cd 3-10

I would not take soy and Vitex together. I have tried both but never took them both at the same cycle.
Good luck to you!

I agree with Erika. I know that some pills should not be taken together. I would run them all through your doctor. Maybe something is working against the other and causing you to not ovulate. I'm not a doctor by any means, but would check with one :) Hope you get back to a normal cycle and your bfp soon :)

Have you heard of Ayurvedic medicines? They all natural and really really works. I have regular periods and ovulation. I was at one point taking stuff and I had no direction. I took vitex and so much other things and got nothing.maybe because I had no clue what I was doing.I talked to a qualified natural doctor and he prescribed medicines.I am doing so so much better.if you wasn't to try natural medicines and be helped choosing the medicines for you, let me know I well tell you who helped me and what I take.

Ladybug - I would be interesting in learning more about what you take and who you saw. Thanks! :)

Thanks all. I went to my Obgyn and decided to try metformin and clomid for a few cycles first, and if no bfp then try the herbs etc.

Liamsmommy- if clomid doesn't help you ovulate - ask your doctor about femara. That's what I'm taking and it's an off label use for fertility, but I've heard it works for PCOS pretty well especially if clomid doesn't work. Plus it has way less side effects than clomid. My uncle is ob/gyn and always told me not to worry about PCOS and babies I can take clomid. Well he even now starts his patients with it on femara. So follow your doc of course but if you increase to highest dose without luck, don't feel that you're out of options :)

Thanks Lindsay! Unfortunately my Obgyn cannot prescribe Femara, only clomid. I would have to go back to my old fertility specialist for Femara and my health insurance doesn't cover him! But if all else fails...

Oh boo :( my ob/gyn does it for me. That stinks!! I don't have any fertility coverage with insurance but they cover femara for me since its off label. :)
