long cycles, possible pcos, and vitex?

Postby ambernicole8484 » Tue Jul 30, 2013 1:40 pm

A friend of mine is suffering from very long cycles and was told that she more than likely has pcos judging by some other symptoms. I suggested Vitex to her but wanted to see if there were any ladies here that have tried it and had success at ovulating and shortening your cycles?

Any other suggested are appreciated as well.

I tried Vitex for a very long time.. never did anything for me :/ I did all natural herbs and still nothing changed. I was only having a period every 3 months, sometimes longer. The only thing that helped me was going back on a high dose of birth control for 3 months to "shut down" my ovaries, and then of course injections to make me ovulate since that's something I don't do on my own. Clomid didn't even help me ovulate, I still had 50 day cycles with it. With saying that, not all women with long cycles don't ovulate.. some still do! But my fertility doctor did mention long cycles can indicate bad egg quality or of course, PCOS :|

I also have PCOS and was taking Vitex to help regulate my cycles. My cycles weren't terribly long - about 35 days or so - but it shortened mine to about every 29 days. It also helped with my PMS symptoms. It definitely can't hurt, so I always tell people to give it a try!
