Just diagnosed with PCOS, confused about diet

Postby goody5 » Sun Oct 27, 2013 5:49 pm

So, I received a letter in the mail today with my bloodwork on it. At the bottom of the paper there was a note from my RE that said "your high free testosterone indicates that you in fact do have PCOS" that's it, no explanation on diet or what to do next. During my first appointment with her, she said I need to lose 25lbs so we can do IUI. I need to lose that weight(I'm 245 now), so I've been researching PCOS diets like crazy. I'm so confused because many of them contradict one another. Many sites say low carbs, high protein. Others say just avoid starchy carbs (white bread, potatoes) What the best diet plan?

Didnt want to read and run

I too have PCOS and used femara to get pregnant- and was successful on our 4th round of 2.5mg

I would suggest eating naturally- whole and local as well- also exersize as much as you can even when you dont want to

stay strong PCOS Sucks, but you can get through and have a baby as well

What was your DR's reason on losing the weight before IUI??? ive never heard that one, but I am also in Canada so maybe thats why...???

Thanks, it so overwhelming!
The RE said I'm too over weight to have IUI, I don't "fit the criteria" for IUI until I'm down to at least 220.

Google Jamie Easons live fit trainer and follow her exercise and diet program. It focuses on clean eating and weight training/HIIT/cardio. You will have to become comfortable lifting weights at the gym next to guys looking at you crazy. I tell them to get used to it! :-) I love the program and it's completely free.

Check out the book called "the insulin resistance diet", I have heard that it is great for PCOS, and weight loss. I purchased it on Amazon, and it's got a lot of great tips, recipes, etc. It's not a hard diet, and sort of teaches you about how to portion protein and carbs so that they balance each other out, and work in your favor. Load up on salads--lunch and dinner, and snacking, and cut out any pop/soda that you drink (or only reward yourself with one or two on the weekends). Exercise everyday too--I notice that I don't lose weight too fast when I only exercise 30 minutes a day, but if I up it to 45, then BAM, weight loss!

Good luck with everything!

Hi Ladies. I was also recently diagnosed with suspected PCOS (due to hormonal imbalance) and the Dr also suggested that I lose weight. As much as I do O on my own, I started clomid (Day 2-6)...we just have to see how it goes. After AF is gone, I'll start working out and lose excess weight...its not easy though
Me - Thully - 34 - Diagnosed with PCOS(because of hormonal imbalance) by gynae in Jan 2014
