Metformin Success?

Postby kittykat722 » Mon Nov 04, 2013 9:23 am

Hi ladies!

I've been a TTC since 2010 with no success. As you can see from my siggy, I was diagnosed with Graves Disease in Aug. of 2011 but I went into remission fairly quickly. Since then DH and I have been trying on and off. I'm seeing a new OBGYN and based on my history of irregular periods she's leaning toward a PCOS diagnosis. I'm also overweight and have high cholesterol along with pre diabetes (although she said it's not horrible) She ran CD 21 BW and it showed that I have not ovulated yet so she wants to start me on provera. She also talked about starting me on a "trial" of Metformin. Anyone get a BFP on just Metformin? I can't afford an RE at the moment so I'm hoping this will work.. Thx!

Not for me. I stopped taking it. On first round of clomid alone...I had two beautifully maturing follicles on CD12. Fingers crossed! :-) good luck to you.

Hi! I started metformin about a year ago when I switched REs. although we had to go the ivf route, I did get my bfp! I think metformin helped me to get pregnant and stay pregnant. Right now, I'm 14 weeks w twins! The side effects were rough in the beginning, but my body adjusted within a few weeks. My appetite was suppressed as well. But, it's all worth it! Best of luck to you!

Kittykat my fingers are crossed for you. I started metformin about a year ago and got my bfp in July shortly before I miscarried. I have a history of early miscarriages so that is another story. To answer your question yes it is possible to get success with just metformin. Good luck to you.

Hi redneckgurl,

I'm so sorry for your loss. :( What dose were you taking? I just went up to 1000 mg yesterday. I know this cycle is a bust because I started Met after O but FX'd for next month!

You can definitely get success with just metformin. I just got a bfp for my second pregnancy since on metformin. Good luck to you.

I have PCOS, just started Met this week. I am taking 500 twice a day, and its been a little rough! My blood glucose levels have been a lot lower and more stable so I think it is helping. Good luck!

Maddy,

Im taking Metformin XR which is supposed to help with the GI side effects but it's still been a little crazy. Are you staying at 1000mg or are you increasing? I'm supposed to increase every week until I get to 2000mg and it seems impossible right now. :? FX'd for both of us!

Kat, I just had mine increased to 1500. The tummy issues have eased up, but I still have some issues occasionally. It is really helping to keep my blood sugar levels stable, loving that. I havent really lost any weight, but my midsection is not bloated and swollen anymore, I have lost most of the hair that was growing below my bellybutton, and they few chin hairs I had are also gone. Its helping some! I will see if it helps me to ovulate, cause really isnt that the important part lol!

To help with the tummy issues over found its best to eat atleast 15 to 20 mins prior to taking it. Also if you go up to 2000a day and it upsets your tummy (it did mine back in Jan) it was suggested to me by my Dr to lower the dose back to 1000a day until the queasiness when taking it eases off then up it back to 2000a day and that actually worked for me. It may take a few months but met will help you ovulate. I went 6 years between pregnancies with nothing and 6 months after starting met I got pregnant with my angel Jaquilynn Nichole (mmc @ 8+3 w/DNC in July). I'm currently 7 weeks 4 days pregnant with what is hopefully my rainbow baby. Im trying to stay at my 2000 mg a day but with the ms in full swing it's kind of difficult but I'm taking already 1000a day.Hope this helps ladies. GL! :babydustb:
