I am on Metformin as well, and in the beginning it gave me (TMI) diarrhea. I know its hard but if you can stick it out the symptoms will subside. You can also take over the counter nausea medicine

Sorry your not feeling well :( Try taking it 20 min before you eat dinner. Are you on regular metformin? If so, call your doctor and see if you can get extended release metformin. It helps a ton with the side effects. I've been on it for 6 weeks and even though I'm still dealing with diarrhea twice a day somedays it has gotten MUCH better. Like the PP said try taking some anti-diarrea meds and see if that helps. Hang in there, sweetie.. It does get better!

That's it I am done!!! Metformin (the reg formula) is the devil. I have not been able to hold anything down, (tmi) and it's coming from both ends. I'm having hot and cold flashes. Everything hurts even my toenails. I've emailed my dr and asked for the extended release. I can't for the love of God see how ppl can take this stuff and actually function normally. Like if I keep taking this stuff I'll end up in the hospital in the next day or so.

Im so sorry you're that sick! Hopefully you're doctor will give you the XR! My symtoms are slowly getting better as well although somedays are better than others depending on what I eat. Also, my problems seem to start 6-7 hours after I take it. Feel better soon sweetie!

Kendra, so sorry it's been rough! Hang in there...metformin has done wonders for me! I took immodium in the beginning to help w/ the diarrhea. My stomach felt like it was doing somersaults, but that eased after 2-3 weeks. My appetite took a nose dive and stayed low through my first trimester of pregnancy. I was on metforming for about a year...we had great success with IVF and still have 8 frosties. Twins are due in April. Hope it works for you!

Best,
M

I have been taking the extended release Metformin 2000mg a day (4 pills at once per my nurse) since April of this year, but I have been on the normal Metform in the past. I found that taking it at night works best for me and I never ever take it on an empty stomach. Metformin helps regulate blood sugar and if you take it on an empty stomach it can make your blood sugar drop (hence nausea). Also, try snacking, have small meals every 2-3 hours of fruit or veggies or even crackers. I found that if I don't eat enough I have loose stools and bad metformin diarrhea. Oh the good side, it regulated my cycles to 30 days like clockwork from an average of 36-48 day cycles.

It will get better! Good luck!
