Sorry, another question about Metformin

Postby cookie_monster » Mon Mar 24, 2014 10:32 am

I recently found out I have PCOS. My GYN immediately put me on Metformin, saying it'll help us conceive quicker. I'm on 500g a day, 250g morning, 250g in the evening. For now she's put me on 2 months course.

Please can someone explain to me exactly how Metformin is supposed to make couples conceive quicker? Most stuff I read online is related to diabetics and insulin stuff.. I want to know the conception details related to this medicine.

Thanks :)

I started with the 500 dosage at first. Now I'm up to 2000.

My cycles were pretty irregular. O would happen cd 20-33. Now my last 2 cycles o happened in days 22 and 20. So it seems like it's helping. I'm cd 16 today and should O next week.

Metformin helps PCOS patients by making your body more sensitive to insulin so your hormones get back under control. PCOS is characterised by hormonal imbalances such as high testosterone, high estrogen, high LH, high prolactin, or high insulin, or a combination of more than one of these. Metformin helps with insulin, lh, and testosterone, maybe prolactin too. It's a good start for treatment, though it may not be all you need. Worked for me, though! I had a 140 day cycle that was finally stopped after I took metformin for six weeks. It can take several weeks to get your body in balance again. Now I'm on day five of my first real cycle since October. Hope it works for you!
