HELP!!

Postby sgrumbling21 » Mon Jun 02, 2014 3:18 pm

Ok, so I haven't been officially diagnosed with PCOS but I feel like this is my diagnosis. Ever since I started my period, I have been irregular. I took BCP to regulate when I was 14. It then became regularly irregular. I have always been a little overweight and about 2 years ago I just stopped having my period. I didn't have one for about a year and a half.I had also gained a lot of weight during that time because of varying medical issues and physical injury preventing me from exercising, but I then lost some weight and had my period for about 3 months straight. My doctor then put me on Provera to help to regulate my system but she only gave me a 3 month supply. It worked and I stopped bleeding nonstop but now I am still not having a period. I have been temping and using OPK's and I still haven't been able to determine my O. I asked my doctor to prescribe the Provera again on a monthly basis to actually help regulate and maybe O to conceive. Any other suggestions?

I would make sure your doctor knows all of your concerns. I think a majority of women are diagnosed with PCOS through ultrasound or scans so that the doctor can tell if there are multiple cysts on the ovaries. I was diagnosed through my Natural Family Planning chart. There are several options out there to help manage PCOS and ovulate regularly. I'm currently taking Metformin and Letrozole to help regulate and induce ovulation. My cycles used to be anywhere from 3-6 months long, and now they are between 4-6 weeks. I hope it all works out and that you get your BFP soon!

You can also be diagnosed by blood tests done for hormones. My LH and FSH ratio wasn't right, which is 'indicative' of PCOS. I was started on Metformin immediately before I even had the ultrasound done to confirm it. The ultrasound did show both ovaries were polycystic. Met has been gradually regulating my cycles for the past 2 and a half months I've been taking it. Maybe discuss this with your doctor?

I was also diagnosed by blood tests for my LH & FSH ratio. I'm on metformin as well, and have been just over a month.

I would definitely start by getting an ultrasound to check to see if you have polycystic ovaries. That coupled with irregular periods, difficulty loosing weight, and insulin sensitivity would definitely indicate you have PCOS. I would also get your blood work done. This can test for insulin sensitivity and your doc will prescribe you Metformin which has absolutely helped me get consistent periods and it even helps with weight.

Thank you so much ladies!! I have tried talking to my doctor but she refuses to do an ultrasound because she says that it won't show anything especially because my blood levels were normal. I think I will be switching OBGYN's soon. She also said that I can go to a fertility specialist if i wanted too so I will be making an appointment soon. I really hope that I can get this all figured out soon.

Thank you all again! And good luck to you all as well!
