Newly diagnosed, TTC #1

Postby bluenoser » Wed Aug 20, 2014 8:31 am

Hi all,

I have suspected for many years that I've had PCOS, I had an ob/gyn at one point suggest that I had it however she wouldn't give me the official diagnosis, and subsequently didn't get treated. I received my official diagnosis a week ago from a new ob/gyn who is fantastic. Not only did he give me the diagnosis but he immediately started me on a course of treatment. I'm now on Provera, Metformin and will soon start round 1 of Clomid.

DH (well, we're not technically married) has 2 kids (7 and soon to be 9), and we're trying for #1 together. He has a strong history of twins in his family, with being on Clomid and it's lovely side effect of increased chance of multiples this makes me nervous! lol This is my second time TTC; my ex and I tried, which was 11 years ago. While I did get pregnant it ended at about 16wks with a miscarriage.

Today I am on my 6th day of Provera with 4 more to go, then i wait for AF to show, then I start Clomid cd5-9, then we do the deed, per Dr's direction, cd 14, 16, 18 etc. And then we wait. I'm not the most patient of people at the best of times so this should be fun! Dr says as soon as I get a positive test to call him, he wants to closely monitor me due to my previous mc. Once I get a positive he wants me in for an immediate ultrasound, and then weekly from there. Though he sees no reason why I can't get pregnant and have it stick. So, I'm hopeful. Cautious and nervous, but hopeful and excited!

So, this is me. I look forward to getting to know you all!

Thanks!
Dr says when I'm not pg I'll need to be on some sort of progesterone via birth control, since I produce none on my own. i remember being on bc years ago and it wasn't a fun experience, so this should be interesting when the time comes.

That sucks. I know several ppl who don't do well on birth control. Hopefully by the time you have to go back on it there will be something that works better for you.

Hey there!

Hopefully my story will make you feel a bit happier. I was diagnosed with PCOS in 2011. I just started seeing a new OBGYN because my DH and I had just moved. He diagnosed me within about 1 minute of meeting me. I felt confused and ill when he told me I had PCOS. He started me on clomid, metformin, and provera to kick start my cycle. That was in January 2011.

I got pregnant in May of that same year and now I have a wonderful 2 1/2 year old son.

I'm now TTC#2, which is proving to be a little more stressful and difficult. I'm not patient, and I'm even less patient than I was two years ago. But it is very possible to conceive, and I feel like I never would have gotten pregnant without the diagnosis and medication.

TTC #2: No BC since March 2013, seriously trying since April 2014.
I have PCOS. I'm taking Metformin 1000g/day & Clomid 100g/day (on CD 1-5)
Cycles: 28-29 days

That is definitely good to hear!

My new ob/gyn was much the same: within 2mins of talking to him he had me diagnosed and we had medications sorted out.
Eleven years ago I got pg on just provera and clomid, however it ended in miscarriage. This difference this time is I'm on Metformin, which I'm hoping is the magic missing piece.

Thanks for sharing. It is comforting to hear of someone in a similar situation having success!

How are things here? I'm doing much better on the meds than I anticipated. I had heard about some awful side effects and so far, while I'm def experiencing some, nothing too bad. I hope it continues that way!

I'm currently in a bit of a waiting game.
On Sunday I took my last provera pill, and now I wait for AF to show up. I am crampy as all get out, and my boobs are a bit sore, so I hope she shows soon. From what I've read AF usually shows 2-4 days after your last pill, but can show 10+ days later. I really hope I don't have to wait that long. I'm anxious to get going on the Clomid!

Aside from the cramps and being a bit more emotional than usual I haven't had much in the way of side effects. I'm glad to hear you're experiencing the same in your situation!

Yup! I'm currently on cd2! I have gone a year, at least, without a period so this sucks! But I'm glad AF showed. On Tuesday I start the clomid, then the finger crossing will begin!

The first time I was TTC, meds were great, no side effects, no pain. This time I have ovulation pain from clomid, period pain from . . . well from life I guess, and a bit of depression from either BFNs or meds. I kinda miss birth control . . . Other than the pesky lack of conception.

My goodness, the first time I TTC the meds didn't really bother me. This time? I can definitely tell there is a difference. I may be naive in thinking this but maybe it means something. Last time no side effects from the meds, things didn't work so well. This time is different so maybe the results will be different.

I start clomid tomorrow. I'm looking forward to getting it started. I wonder what effects it will have on me this time?
