Metformin without PCOS

Postby babydust530 » Wed Dec 03, 2014 10:01 am

Hi ladies,

My doctor started me on metformin today, in the hopes that it will help regulate my period. He wanted to try metformin prior to clomid. Although my blood work did show elevated levels of testosterone, the rest of my blood work and ultrasound did not show signs on PCOS, so my doctor said he doesn't think this is what I have (but ordered another round of blood work and ultrasound to double check). Regardless, of my diagnosis he put me on metformin to try to regulate my period, which would then lead to me hopefully ovulating again. Since I've read of metformin always connected with PCOS, I was curious to see if anyone else is currently or has in the past been in a similar situation than me (taking metformin without PCOS or diabetes).

Did the doc run an H1c or insulin test?

I don't think so. He said that even though I don't have an insulin problem, Metformin has helped regulate other patient's cycles that didn't have PCOS or insulin issues. I was hoping I could find someone else that is in the same boat.

Update: turns out I do have PCOS. I was diagnosed last week. No issues with my insulin, but high testosterone and ultrasound showed multiple cysts on both ovaries.
