Newly DX with PCOS

Postby Mommy2WnA » Thu Nov 30, 2006 8:52 pm

I was dx with PCOS yesterday. I have SO many questions! I know what it is and I am reading more about that.

I am guessing that my gyn thinks I have a mild form because the only symtoms I have are irregular cycles often annov. and depression. It kind of blew me away when he did the internal u/s and showed me a ton of cysts on both ovaries. Both of them are covered! I never imagned I had PCOS! I guess I am still in shock..

Anyway, my questions...

Would I be considered as having a mild case?

My gyn only put me on Clomid 100mg cd 3-7 for 2 months and did not even mention Met...is that normal for someone who is considered to have a mild case?

I odviously have to wait for my next cycle to start the Clomid, but what can I do/take to help give these two cycles with just Clomid the best chance possible?

I took Clomid 50 mg cd 3-7 last cycle and :o: 'd cd 15 and had a 15 day LP, but BFN. Today during the u/s, my gyn showed me my lining and said it looked great. Does that mean Clomid did not affect my lining or is it out of my system by now? Should I go ahead and take Baby Asprin either way? I read that it can't hurt.

He said that it looked like I was going to :o: on my right side. How did he know that? What did he see that told him that? He kind of whizzed through the u/s and I didn't see everything for very long...

In the end, he told me to get on a good prenatal and start the Clomid next cycle if I am not pg and that if I was not pg after 2 rounds of Clomid unmonitored, we would get together and workout a new plan.

Sounds good right? Is he doing enough right off? I like him, but I am a bit worried that he didn't put me on Met right away.

Oh..I did get pg and had my little boy after 17 months of ttc without knowing about my PCOS. He said I was damn lucky!

I'm still in shock, so any info or suggestions of books/internet reading is much appreciated! TIA

Here's a question...Several people have pointed out that since I :o: on my own sometimes and dr said I probably will this time, that I may end up pg this time, but miscarry and that I should talk to my dr about protecting this cycle. If I call my dr now and he agreed to Met and I start it now, would it be in my system enough to protect this cycle? Should I ask about progesterine supplements as well for after :o: ? I have progesterine cream..can I use that?

My dad is convinced that I am going to get pregnant before the end of December. Last time my dad said that, I got pg!

Any of you know about Jenny and Cheri? They are two girls that do Conception Predictions for girls ttc. Anyway, I am not sure that I believe in all that but I had emailed them both back in May before we started ttc #2. I have gotten a response from both of them in the last few days! Both say I will get pg in December of this year and I will give birth around September 8th and it will be a girl...

I donno..maybe I am freaking out because I want it to be true so badly! For it to be true, I would have to get pg on this totally unmedicated cycle and I am now terrified of a m/c even though the dr said my lining looks good!

This is so frustrating!

Hey there!

Welcome to the world of PCOS! It's not fun..but hey, somebody's gotta do it! haha! Anyways... you asked a lot of questions that I'm not sure of the answers..but i will do my best.

Your question about the Met. They say it takes 3 good months to build up in your system, but it can definitely start working right away! I went to my family doc for a cold on Monday and he was talking about his wife taking Clomid.. She had been taking it for two months then her doctor added Met right before ovulation on the third month.. she got PG that cycle! It definitely would not hurt to get on the Met! I've been on it since August...but I'm only on the 50mg of Clomid. I'll start 100mg next cycle.

About the Clomid... I also read and heard somewhere that Clomid can build up in your system. So when your doc did the US... it was probably right.. the clomid didn't affect your lining in a bad way. I would ask him about the baby aspirin though, before you start it.

About the OTC progesterone cream.... is it typically used for women going through menopause? I know many TTC women swear by it..but my GYNO said that many of those creams (not all) can cause birth defects  because of certain ingredients... progesterone from the doc is A-OK!

Okay, like I said.. I'm not an expert. I really hope that you do get PG this cycle and don't even have to bother with everything else! :D Life would be so much easier! :D

Good :luck: and Tons of :babydustg:

HEHE..somebody has to do it..yup..so true!

I think I have decided to call my doc on Monday and request Met. From everything I have read, it can't hurt...

Hopefully I will get pg this cycle and not have to take the Clomid, but if I don't I will start taking the Baby Asprin again since that can't hurt either.

I was thinking of the progesterine cream as an alternative to the Met. if he wouldn't give it to me. Yea it is for menopause, but I think there are some natural ones that aren't just for that. I would rather just get Met. so hopefully my doc won't fight me on that!

I guess I will just have to see what my doc says on Monday...it's so hard to wait!

I agree..it would be so much easier to just get pg this time! :D

Thanks for the "welcome"! I have had a bad few days! :babydustb: :babydustg: to you as well and I hope you get your BFP this cycle too! :hugs:

That's good that you are going to call your Doctor on Monday! I don't see why he wouldn't let you try the Met! The side effects aren't too good at the beginning, but then again...there are many women who don't experience any at all. I had really bad nausea until I switched to the 1500mg XR. I would request the extended release, only because you only take it one time a day. Met is something that you should be consistent with and I would always forget to take it after my meals...then take it many hours later. Once I switched to the XR, I haven't had any problems!

Anyways, hope your days get better!! :hugs: Good :luck: this cycle and hopefully God will bless you with that little Christmas baby :D

Well, I called my doctor today, but the nurse called back and said he had to run out of the office and he would have to call me back tomorrow. So, I guess tomorrow I will find out! I have had an upset stomach all day, because I am nervous about talking to him about it...

I hope GOD gives us both Christmas BFPs! :jump:

Yes, I agree! I hope God does bring us BOTH Christmas :bfp:'s! :D The only thing is.. I'm 9dpo and :bfn: If that doesn't change soon... mine will have to be a new years :bfp: :D

I wouldn't be nervous about calling your doctor. I know that's easier said than done. I work in a doctor's office and people call with questions ALL the time.. We just send them back to the nurses. The nurses then e-mail or page the docs with the questions and then call the patients back. That is the doc's job. He won't think anything less of you for calling and asking.. I promise! :D I know it can be nerve wracking though. Before I started working there I was the same way.

Well, Good :luck: and I hope you get that Met!!

WhooHoo! He is giving me the Met!!! He said he didn't mention it to begin with because he didn't want to push medication on me since a lot of women would rather just take Clomid for 5 days instead of taking a pill everyday. He said most women get pg within 6-8 weeks of starting Met. He is starting me at 500mgs for 1 month and then 1000mgs for 1 month and then he said we will get together and see how that is working for me. He said he is not moving me up as quickly as other women because my IR is clearly not bad enough that I have the weight gain and excess hair.

So, I go pick it up tomorrow! We have insurance, but I am not sure what they will cover...hope it's not too expensive!

He said that he wants to try just the Met for now and we could add the Clomid later, but I the Clomid he gave me before, so I may take it any way...guess we'll see!

I am SO excited right now! :jump: :jump: :jump:

Hey!

Looks like you will start testing soon!! I will be :praying: for you! God is good and he will bless you in his timing... and hopefully his timing is now!

This is our 4th round of Clomid.... without doctor's orders, I have decided to take it on days 3-7 instead of 5-9. Hopefully I don't screw anything up but I thought that maybe I would O earlier than CD19 this way! We'll see what happens... DH will get his s/a done after the first of the year and then onto 100mg! This is getting pricey!! Our insurance doesn't cover anything :(

Well, hopefully we will be blessed with that New Year's :bfp: and you will get your Christmas one!!

Good :luck: and keep me posting with your testing!! :praying: :praying: :praying:

Yay, it's gonna be all I can do to not start testing at 9 dpo! I hope it's God's timing now too!

It shouldn't screw anything up to switch to cd 3-7. Should just make you O sooner. I O'd on cd 15 when I took 50 mg cd 3-7. From what I understand cd 3-7 makes more eggs and cd 5-9 makes them mature faster/better or something like that.

I hope DH's s/a is perfect!

Oh that sucks that your insurance covers nothing! Mine covers all the testing, but no treatments! Clomid costs me $50 for 1 round of 100 mgs. My met is cheap though since it is for diabetes! It's only $5

Hopefully you will get pg this cycle and not have to worry about it!

I will continue to pray for you as well! :o: :fertilization: :noaf2: :bfp: :hugs:
