Endo and Infertility

Not exactly very promising, even with Clomid/overstimulation... I had/have a 15% chance of getting pregnant this cycle. That's terrible! Granted my endo has been removed unlike the women in this study, but it's been a year, it's mostly back by now.

I was hoping to stay away from IVF because it's so expensive. At my RE it's $8500 + the cost of meds. He's also 3 hours away so we have to factor in gas, hotel, and time off work.

My instinct is that it depends on the particular situation.
My endo is pretty bad - lots of adhesions and I had an ovarian cyst that needed removal (plus half my ovary). But luckily my tubes are clear and I have one normal ovary. Bad news is one tube is stuck to my stomach so that can inhibit normal travel of the egg and sperm (I think).
Knowing you have endo, is the most important bit so you can do things to minimize. If my cyst had not burst I would likely not have known for ages if ever. The cyst I think was inhibiting normal ovulation - it was in my right ovary so the more dominant one. My doc could not remove any endo (except on my ovary) - too dangerous she said but has me on bcp to limit growth. she said it is better for ovarian health than stronger hormones but not quite as effective. She gives me a small chance at normal conception due to my age, the endo and the celiac. But from what I have been reading - going gluten free will limit inflammation and such endo growth as well. I think that ups my chances. So will go on a schedule with bcp vs ttc.
This article is not so dire. Yes, we have lower odds but we can do things to improve the odds 8) Like going gluten free, limiting exposure to estrogen mimickers etc.

I read a really similar article by Dr. Sher last year and that was what helped me make the decision to go straight to IVF and skip IUI altogether. To me, IUI only really makes sense for people with male factor or hostle CM. COH is what most benefit from.

My issue with the meds is when you pump an endo girl full of hormones you just progress the disease. I want to save being pumped full of hormones for the very best bet which is IVF.

Also the meds are some of the most expensive and if you look at 6 medicated IUIs thats probably close to what you'd spend on 1 IVF. *(don't quote me on this I haven't priced it out offically!)

I really think the four rounds of Clomid I did messed me up more than anything. Before then I had no issues with my right ovary and when I went in for my first IVF ultrasound I had a 2 cm complex cyst on my right ovary, my good ovary...

We're thinking about it. We're trying to set up an actual consultation with our RE that did DH's SA. IVF there is $8500 not including meds so I don't know how we'll afford it. My goal is to at least pay for the meds out of pocket and if we have to then we'll get a loan for the rest. I'd hate to go into debt over this, but I will if I have to!

We lived in Kansas until June of last year and KU did $7,000 all inclusive IVF cycles with meds included. Their success rates can't touch our RE in Albuquerque though... They're #10 in the nation and our RE was the first doctor to successfully perform IVF in New Mexico. My parents still live in KS so if needed we might consider going back there for IVF.

I kind of feel like Clomid is just a filler until we can afford other treatments, no matter what they are. I have the same feelings toward IUI too. It has better success rates for women with endo than trying naturally or with fertility drugs alone, but not enough that I would try it for multiple cycles.

I tested! It's over in POAS. I'm not counting it as positive quite yet so I don't want to get ahead of myself.
