Possible to get a lap done without an HSG?

Postby scharpster » Fri Sep 07, 2012 2:46 pm

Was told by my RE that I had to have an hsg done before a lap. Sounded like it was a precursor. Wondering if it's possible to skip the hsg? Those who have had both, do you think the hsg was really worth it? Also, do you get a scar from the lap?

I was told yesterday by my doctor that he wanted me to have the lap done. He said we could do an hsg but rather go right to the source and see what is really going on inside.

I did Lap combined with HSG... You might as well see if tubes are clear while he's in there. As far as scars from lap, they typically make three small incisions. I've had two lap/hysteroscopy/hsg's so my scars are on left & right hip bone, one at belly button, and one over pubic bone. Good luck to you!!!

I'm booked in for a lap and dye test on 28th Nov.
Can't wait as been trying to conceive for 16months now and nothing's happening.
Had 3 rounds on Clomid and that didn't work either.
Hopefully this will figure out what the problem is !

Holly- You will feel so much better to have a doctor physically look and see what's going on and get some answers. Any possibility you have endo? That was my problem. We had TTC for a year and a half before I had my 1st lap/hysto/hsg. Best of luck to you! The recovery was super easy. No serious pain for me. A little cramping from scraping of the endo (but I've had period cramps worse than that) ... The only part that was uncomfortable was the gas being absorbed. They have to inject alot of air into your abdomen to see your ovaries/uterus and that all had to be reabsorbed by the body. You'll feel it when you lean over or move in certain positions especially in your shoulder blade. The best thing to do is keep moving to displace that air! Best of luck to you and keep us posted!

Yeah my doctor said I possibly could have endo as my periods were really irregular and I had awful period pains.
Really can't wait for it to happen and move on to the next step.
Will most definitely keep you all posted !
