After Laparoscopy- Success on conceiving?

Postby Ready4it » Sun Aug 17, 2014 5:48 pm

Hi... I am having a lap done in a few weeks. Been TTC for a year and they believe I have endo. Has anyone had success conceiving after their lap? Just looking for any support right now. Thanks ladies!

Hi Ready4it, I don't have a story for you as yet but I'm in the same boat and am having a laparoscopy on September 26. I've been TTC #2 since November last year (with a few breaks in that time) and have had two early miscarriages. I have several symptoms of endo. including really annoying abnormal bleeding in my luteal phase. I've long suspected endo and am finally having it checked out and hopefully sorted out.

Good luck with your operation. I hope it all goes well. I hope we both hear some very positive stories on this thread xxx

Hi ladies! Ready4it, I commented on another thread you are in also! Really curious as to your journeys to laparoscopy and curious on how they go. Ready4it, yours is so soon!

My new gyno seems to want to jump right to laparoscopy and hysteroscopy with no other testing first. He did do a vaginal ultrasound and found I have a tilted (to the right) uterus. He thinks endo could be pulling my uterus to the side (though I have no other definite symptoms). A lap will also let him check my tubes without an HSG (insurance doesn't cover infertility and an HSG is mainly for infertility). He says blood work is pointless on me since I have regular cycles. He says he does not like to waste time and dilly dally, he likes to go right in and figure out what is wrong.

I see lulubee you have had two losses, that must have been so hard and frustrating! I am so sorry! With those sort of symptoms, lap seems a good route for you.

I just don't know if I should go ahead with these procedures yet, is he moving too fast? I am being cut open too soon? Is it worth the risk just yet? I mean, DH does not have great numbers (seen in siggy), so maybe it is just him. But the gyno did say that if his sperm are the problem, before we could have IUI I would have to make sure my tubes, etc. are good anyways. Such a hard choice!

HI all! just an update.

I had my lap yesterday. Best decision I have ever made. My hunch was right... they did find endo behind my uterus and were able to remove it. Also, one of my tubes were blocked and they cleaned that up. Totally worth it! I am so happy I got it done and I can start trying in 2 weeks again. The only thing that is bad about the surgery is they do fill you up with gas, and you get really bad shoulder pain.

Good luck everyone and I will post on this thread in the future if I get my BFP as a result. You ladies are a great support system and I wish you continued luck on your TTC journey!!

Chalt14- I would definitely have your doctor do the bloodwork at least first. The lap is surgery, and I would definitely get the bloodwork done before the surgery. I did- and yes all the bloodwork came back perfect- ovarian reserve, thyroid, etc.

I do find that a little odd that they would jump right into the surgery- unless you have had the bloodwork done previously?

Ready4it - so happy to hear your lap was worth it and they were able to clear things up! That is such a relief for you and I really hope it is what you need!

I appreciate the advice too. I am sort of thinking along those same lines. I feel like even if all the other tests turn out to be normal, I will feel more at ease about the choice to have surgery. I think since my DH has bad SA results, and I have no obvious symptoms, I am even more leery about cutting myself open, maybe it's just him...I think we may go to a fertility clinic next cycle or two, even if it is more expensive and insurance won't cover it. We'll see.

Thank you so much for the update, and I look forward to seeing what comes next for you!

Yay Ready! So glad that worked out so well. Hooray they were able remove the endo. And could they unblock the tube? Fingers crossed for you. Hope to hear about your bfp very soon

Chalt14 - I can totally understand you not wanting to rush into the lap. I would think it's worth you getting a febasic blood tests done before the lap if they haven't already done them. Maybe ask about getting your thyroid checked and your progesterone. Then due to your DH's sperm results maybe you could do acouple of iui rounds, then if they weren't successful you think about the lap?

Hi Lulubee! Thanks for your input! I have seen this doctor, Ob/Gyn, only 2 times, and the 2nd time nothing was done, just a technicality to say I have "pain" for insurance sake (I know not the most ethical thing to do, but darn insurance stinks!). He just did a quick peek and a vaginal ultrasound my first visit. That is when he said my uterus tilts to the right and he could not find my right ovary behind my uterus. He actually said blood tests were a waste of time since I have regular cycles, eek! I feel like it would help put me at ease to know more first.

He said that before IUI's are done (if needed), I would have to know if my tubes were clear first - an HSG now would not be covered by insurance and a lap would let me check tubes and see why my uterus tilts (maybe endo). I wonder if that is really the case. It is all so complicated! I really appreciate all of your in put ladies. These are not easy decisions to make.

The thing with the lap is, they can do the HSG test while in there to see if your tubes are open. And if there is blockage, they can clean it up while in there. So, I would definitely push for the blood tests first... but if he can't see your ovary in the ultrasound, then he probably really suspects something is up and that is probably why he is pushing the lap. You have to go with your gut  I went to a doctor before the one I am at, that just said keep trying, don't worry. So do what you feel is right for sure!! :) Good luck and keep us posted!!!

I totally agree with Ready4it, chalt14. I think going with your gut is good advice. I was told by my GP to just not worry about my spotting because I have great, regular cycles. I was told it was 'normal' and not to worry. But it just didn't feel right to me. My gut tells me something is very wrong. And with a history of getting pregnant first time (I've had four pregnancies and 3 were first time), not getting pregnant all of a sudden tells me something is up. Plus my miscarriages. I just needed to act.

I would go with your gut feeling. If you feel nothing is wrong with you then put the lap off. But it might be worth getting it done for peace of mind. I have heard that you can be really fertile straight after a lap, so that might be a good thing.

Keep us updated with what you decide.

I'll let you know how my lap goes. Two weeks today!

Thanks again for your opinions ladies! It really is so helpful to hear what others have experienced. I think I am going to hold off for now. Tempted to try another OB/Gyn to save $, but I have a $40 copay + testing, and if they code it for infertility, I will pay out of pocket. Hate that part of it.

We may go to a fertility clinic next cycle so we can be seen as a couple. As of right now, my husband is getting all of his testing free because he goes to the Veteran's Affairs Hospital. The trade off is that service is slow and they are not really used to dealing with this sort of thing. I hope the next urology appt is more informative!!

Good luck Lulubee, please do let us know how it goes!

Sounds like a plan, chalt. You have to feel comfortable with the decision so waiting sounds like a good idea right now. I hope you can find some cheaper alternatives. I'm really lucky in that I'm in Australia and we have a wonderful medical system over here with government-subsidised treatment - so it's much more accessible.

I just looked at your chart and noticed that we are bang on cycle buddies this cycle! I'm also cd13 today and expecting to o in the next couple of days. Wouldn't it be awesome if we both actually got our BFPs this cycle!
