Success with stage IV endo?

Postby bookworm26 » Fri Sep 19, 2014 1:00 pm

Hi Everyone, I'm new here. Been TTC for 2-3 years now. I just had a lap in the spring for Endo that ended up being a 6 hour surgery, stage IV endo, lost a tube, lots of scar tissue, lots of endo on ovaries, etc. I also had a bikini line cut surgery for endo about 10 years ago. Anyway, I was pretty hopeful that we would be able to conceive after the lap but it's been 6 months now with nothing. We are getting ready to give up, I'm just finding it hard to be hopeful every month after so long. Has anyone had success after there were essentially told it was a lost cause? Or... has anyone given up and moved on?

I just wanted to chime in and share my experience with Stage IV. I'd been TTC for 3 years when I had my first lap done by my OB and was diagnosed with Stage IV Endo in my late twenties. I was immediately put on Lupron Depot for 6 months to "kill" the remaining lesions. I was sure this was my chance, alas yet more disappointment. For the next few years I just buried myself in my career just to stop the agony of TTC. Then one morning last October I woke up with the all too familiar Endo pain and decided I had enough. I was gonna get rid of it no matter what! I did extensive research and found the Center for Endo Care in Atlanta, GA. I arranged a consultation with Dr. Sinervo and scheduled my Endo excision surgery for December. Turns out mine was so bad that part of my bowel had to be removed as well. A regular lap done by your OB really does nothing. The lesions grow right back because they are never actually removed, but instead just the tops of them are burnt or cut off still leaving the invasive lesion that's growing into your organs. It took Dr Sinervo five hours to fully cut the lesions out of all of my organs. For the first time since I was 12 I was pain free! With the Endo gone I decided to move forward with ivf (years of severe Endo had left me with very poor ovarian reserve). I'm happy to report that I'm 4 months pregnant with our first baby! Best wishes to you!

I have not tried IUI or IVF... we can't really afford it after paying for the surgery. I know that it works well for a lot of people but honestly I just don't think it's for us. I did do my surgery with an endo specialist, not just a random OB, but I'm afraid it was too late and too much damage was done.

Well it's all in what you are willing to do and what you can afford. We had insurance coverage for my endo surgery. But all of our IUIs and the IVF (SUCCESS) was out of pocket. But SO totally worth it. I'm almost 31 weeks pregnant with our baby boy!
