Not sure....?

Postby hjh0221 » Sun Jul 26, 2015 7:08 pm

So, I've been stalking this entire website for the past 2 months while TTC and recently went to my gyno for a visit to discuss family planning and to have my annual. Before the visit they kept asking me questions as it related to painful periods etc.

I mean...who doesn't have painful periods am I right? I am just wondering...what is this pain?
I will not lie...a few times a year I will get TERRIBLE cramps but my periods are regular length, they are average 26-28 day cycle. So I didn't think anything of them asking me that. I don't have pain during sex.

Well..during the visit the dr indicated she felt some "firm tissue" and said she wasn't worried about it if I wasn't having painful sex associated with it. Naturally she has me freaking out that I have endometriosis and I am actually kind of upset because she didn't elaborate too much on it. She told me she wanted to check for progesterone levels to make sure I am ovulating and asked me to use ovulation kits. Nice..but I need more answers about this firm tissue.

Is some firm tissue normal? Is it always related to endo? Maybe I should go see someone else...

also i know it's only been two months...but i don't want to find out down the line that this could have been avoided if i found out i had endo and got the proper things in place to assist with treating it...which is why i ask!

Endo is hard to diagnose without a laparoscopy where they look at it directly. A lot women think that period pain is normal but it isn't. Your period shouldnt be painful and easily bearable. If the pain gets so bad that you have to be bed bound, have to take pain killers or it's that strong it bothers/interuppts you while trying to work or do housework it's not normal. My pain would extend into my thighs and make me take pain killers. I could hardly work the first 2 days or stand up for a long time. It got much better after the operation and now i follow an endo diet and i have manageable pain without taking pain killers. Some women have very little endometriose and huge pain, some women have endo all over and feel barely anything. If you have endometriose on your ovaries you will see cysts that won't disappear. They are blood filled and every period adds more blood to them. A doctor can only guess it might be endo but you will never know for sure without a lap procedure. Endo can have a small to great impact on fertility depending where the endo parts sit. I also have pretty normal cycles even with endo. So that's not an indication for it and i also don't have pain during sex. It all depends where the endo is. I guess with firm tissue he means scars? That can be from endo as it causes scarring, adhesions and often pain during your period in the places its located (tubes, bowl, ovaries, uterus, bladder etc.). I also had painful bowl movements during my period cause of adhesions there. But as i said you won't know unless they look at it. You can TTC for now and see what happens. If you try a year without success your doctor will/should recommend you to a fertility specialist and you eventually will be checked for it. For me it was the cysts (wouldnt disappear and got bigger) on my ovaries that caused me to have a small operation and gave me the diagnosis of endo. But again neither you nor you doctor will know for sure without the lap procedure! It can only be assumed.
