Postby MaybeBabyM » Wed Dec 02, 2015 8:07 pm

December 11th i have a fertility appointment with a specialist. i suspect i have endo. I have had sever pain at ovulation and mild pains throughout the rest of my cycle for about two years now. Anyway what are some things i should ask my doctor about endo? I want to make sure I ask everything i can so i can be prepared. What did you ask or wish you asked?

I had no chance to ask really, cause by the time i was checked out i had constant pressure and pain near my ovaries and cysts were seen right away on the ultrasound and it was suspected the way the cysts looked its either endo or dermoid cysts. I had the lap shortly after to relieve the pain and check it out. I informed myself about endo online. It all was a kind of rush or emergency situation where there was not much time to think this through. Also shortly after the lap i moved to live in a different country and had to find a new doctor. I felt much better after the lap though and till today i'm mostly fine pain wise. It's just the infertility part....the endo damaged my ovaries.
The doctor wont be able to tell you much other than what is commonly known about endo, after the lap he/she call tell you more, where the endo was, what was damaged by it and how it effects your fertility in future. The sad part is that not much is known about endo yet. Your doctor should ask you questions about your cycle to see if endo could be suspected and to order an ultrasound to look for cycts. I had very painful periods, even though they were short and not heavy (most women report heavy periods) and often you do have pain throughout your cycle. You can ask him/her what typical endo symptoms are and if you seem to have these, plus cysts or other "unnormal" results on your ultrasound, he/she will most likely tell you to have a lap, as thats the only way to be sure or to diagnose it. There's sadly no other ways to tell at the moment....

Hi Maybe! I also have suspected endo and/or adhesions (scar tissue) from a previous abdominal surgery. Right now I am waiting to do a laparoscopic surgery, which is the only definite way to diagnose endo. When I saw my RE for the first time, she went over what endo is, how it is diagnosed, and how it can affect conception. We talked about how surgery may or may not help endo and what the success rates were after surgery depending on how advanced the endo was. All of that information was really helpful to me so hopefully your RE will go over the same kinds of things.

I would be prepared to hear that you will need to have a lap surgery in order to say with certainty that you have endo. There is no other way to diagnose. They may suggest doing an ultrasound to see if you have visible cysts/tissue on your ovaries, which are characteristic of endo (but not a definite diagnosis).

Good luck! I hope your appointment goes well. Remember that meeting with a RE is the first step to finding a solution!
