Short, light, painless AF ... What???

Postby NikkiC123 » Mon Jun 02, 2008 5:07 am

Hi ladies,

I wonder if anyone has any pearls of wisdom they can share with me??!! As an endo sufferer, I've always had extremely heavy, painful and long periods. I'm supposed to be starting IVF at the end of this month (on CD1 of my next cycle), but strangely enough, the period I've just had was completely atypical for me - 3 days, so light it didn't even 1/4 fill my menstrual cup (normally I fill it every couple of hours on a heavy day - normally 2 days out of 6 or 7 like this), no pain at all ... Of course I've POAS and of course they were BFN's, I'm just really freaked out by this! I'm hoping my body hasn't decided to start playing tricks on me, since the start dates for IVF are based around my cycle, it would be so typical if my cycle now decides to go completely out of whack.

I just wondered if any other endo ladies out there have had a weird period like this and what it meant for them (i.e. did it turn out you were pg, did it mess up your cycle so you had an extremely long or short cycle the next month, did you discover something else wrong with you, or did you find your endo had miraculously been cured?!!)

I'm hoping someone will be able to shed some light for me!!

Thanks in advance!

Nikki

Nikki--I really don't know the answer to this. Over the years I've had varying periods, but usually fairly moderate. While on birth control they were shorter and lighter. Mine were never extremely heavy like many endo people have, but I do know that since I had my lap and the endo was extracted, my periods have been awesome...lighter, about 3 days (instead of 5), pain free, etc. I'm not sure why yours would have changed--you mentioned IVF...did they put you on birth control pills for this? My IVF called for birth control pills prior to all the shots...if you were on the pill for a little while, I'm thinking that could be the reason your period is lighter.

Hi HopeandPray,

Thank you for your response!! I'm so jealous that you had your endo removed - they tend not to do that here in the UK, just let you suffer in silence ... No, I wasn't put on BCP, I haven't taken / done anything different, that's why this is so weird! I'm now on CD10 and have been cramping and having some EWCM as if I'm about to O, when I normally O around CD16. Weirder and weirder ...!

The only thing I can think of is that when the nurse booked me in for the IVF at the start of my June cycle, I was thinking and hoping that I would come on early so that I could start sooner!! Maybe my body has finally decided to start listening to me ;-) lol!! If I O earlier then AF will arrive earlier and I can finally get this show on the road!! Yay!

Does anyone else have any weird endo cycles - and has anyone been "spontaneously cured"? I'm very interested in the whole "mind over matter" thing!

Thanks again,

Nikki

Hi Nikki! I'm sorry that you have to suffer from endo. :( Did they do a laparoscopy to diagnose you? I'm surprised that they didn't remove any of it when they know it's there. I believe that endo gets worse over time and to leave it "as is" is giving it the advantage to gain control over your fertility unless it's a very minor case or where surgery would make it worse due to scarring.

As for your question, I felt I was "spontaneously cured" -with my supplements! I know the idea is WAY out there (believe me, I've suffered from endo sxs since I started my period 16 years ago and wouldn't EVER consider a supplement to help in the least bit) but it really works! I was SO overjoyed...I tell you, it was ALMOST like finding a :bfp: I was so happy! I didn't even realize it until the end of AF that cycle. It was a total shock. No mind over matter for me, but it was absolutely something to celebrate after 16 years of torture! ;)

Anyway, I digress....I started taking the Vi-PAK and after about 5 months of continuous use, my cramps and headaches and most PMS disappeared! I've not been so good at taking them the last two cycles and I am suffering from the cramps and headaches, bloating, back pains, etc. once again. :( It did get a bit lighter than usual that 1st no-pain cycle too. The following cycle, I O'd later (about 8days) but it went back to my usual O date after that. :dunno: I will definitely try harder to take the Vi-PAK regularly! Not sure if that helps much, but I figured I could tell my story and you can take what you will from it. ;) (I didn't vote though 'cause none of the options fit me.)

I think that whatever you're doing, exercise, any major changes in your life, even DIET changes could affect your cycles. Maybe even anticipating the IVF is shifting your cycle. :dunno: Lots of luck with that too. It's our next step, but I'm surely not ready for it yet. I really hope it all works out for you and your DH. We wait and wait, and pray and do whatever we need to cycle after cycle. I hope and pray that it's your turn!
