What CD should I start taking clomid?

Postby Ema » Mon Nov 10, 2008 6:38 am

This is my first month of clomid+IUI. I'm doing it with my GYN because I hate my RE. Well he's not the most up on infertility. But an RE that I loved (but lived too far away from us to treat us regularly) recommended IUI+clomid. Ok that's the backstory.

Question: My GYN has me taking clomid CD5-10. I normally get a +OPK on CD11. But if I can't OPK test until at least three days after taking my last pill....how will I know?????

I know some girls start on CD3. It just seems logical that with my shorter cycles I should start earlier. My GYN just kept telling me to look for a +OPK on CD14. Never even asking how long my cycles are.

What do you all think??? Thank you so much if you can help!!!!!

I take my Clomid cd 3-7...start using OPK's cd 10 and start bd'ing cd 11-17.

Do you ovulate on your own?

If you ovulate on your own then most ob's will prescribe that you take Clomid on cd 5-9 because it will produce a better quality egg. If you don't ovulate regularly or at all (in my case) then you will most likely be prescribed to take it cd 3-7 because it produces more eggs in the hope one will release.

In either case I would stick to what your doctor says so you do mess up the "plan" or information in the charts. Or talk to your doctor about your concerns and see what they say as far as why they have you taking it when you do.

I would attempt 5-9 first since that is what the doctor recommend. I always started the OPK's on cd 10 I usually got my positive on about cd 17-19 .. Clomid will prob lengthen your cycle.

I used to do it 3-7, this cycle I did 4-8 and got my BFP but it 's not ending well. Regardless, it's not b/c of my Clomid days. I think earlier is better IMO.

I do O on my own. Normally I get a +OPK on CD10/11 and O on CD12. Sometimes earlier. This past cycle I O on CD11.

My confusion is in how will I know if I missed it? If I can't test until CD13. And any tests from CD10-13 could be + for two reasons...either it's a clomid+ or it's my actual +.

I just don't want to mess myself up. This is stressing me up. I would be VERY inclined to just listen to my doctor but he is just basing what he does on what I say my RE said  And he seemed a bit confused when I mentioned OPK.

Anyone naturally O and have shorter cycles....what day did you all start??? :D :D :D :D

Thanks so much for all your help!!!! :hi: I know you must get sick of answering these type of questions.

Don't give up yet! It looks like your levels ARE doubling, slowly but surely. I've got my fingers crossed for you for the 19dpo results!
