Spotting 9dpo on clomid and freaking out - any advice?

Postby bignettyb » Wed Feb 04, 2015 6:03 am

My dh and I have been trying to conceive for 3.5 years. I have been put on clomid. I had day 21 progesterone levels done for the first cycle of 50mg showing no ovulation then the same when I was tried on 100mg. The day 21 test on my first 100mg cycle indicated ovulation but the fertility doctor has not wanted to do any further bloods since. I'm just completing my 3rd cycle of 100mg.

I have always had pre period spotting but since being on 100mg this has settled to 11dpo and the days after with a 27day cycle and was told by fertility team that this wasn't a problem. This month I'm getting spotting from 9dpo (I'm now 10dpo). I'm panicking that something else is wrong... This seems way too early. I've been charting to feel like I have some control and that indicated ovulation on day 14 and good high temps. However my temps have dropped today and yesterday . I've emailed the nurse but not heard back and you can never get hold of her by phone. Has anyone else experienced this? Any advice?

sure your temps went down, but I think it's still too early to worry. Perhaps they will rise again tomorrow. I think many women spot and it could even be implantation bleeding.
I started charting so that I could feel like I had a little control. It makes me feel like I have just one day to wait until the next temp as opposed to a tww just doing nothing.
Where are you located? I noticed your chart was in C, so I assume you're not in the states.

Thanks...that makes me feel a little better. My dh is still feeling positive but I'm feeling less confident. I'm in the UK are you in the states? What is your story? I totally get what you mean about charting giving you a feeling of control - I feel just the same. It can also be disheartening too though when you see those temps begin to fall.

whew...my story.
We got married a little over 2 years ago. First marriage for each of us and we aren't youngsters (just waited for the right one!). We didn't start trying IMMEDIATELY, but probably a little before the first year of our marriage had completed. I had been on BC before and once we started officially trying to get pregnant, I talked to a midwife friend about some things because I'm over 35 and I didn't want to wait 6 months to find out that something might be wrong. We tried naturally for a little bit...then she prescribed clomid (I had really irregular periods, so we didn't know if I ovulated regularly or not). 2nd month of clomid (50), we got pregnant. At the first u/s (we actually just were going to hear the heartbeat with the doppler) we found that there was no heartbeat and had to have a D&C a couple of days later. It was 9.5 weeks and the baby measured exactly that...so it must've just happened give or take a day. (I chose not to wait to miscarry completely). We were told to wait 2 full cycles before trying again so my lining could have time to thicken up for a good implant next time...however it took 3+ months for me to even GET a period. So we had to basically put off trying for 5 months. Ugh. We've been back on clomid now for a few months with a natural month in between. The doc upped me to 100 3 cycles ago.
That's about it. This is my first month charting so I don't know what my "trend" is...but I like doing it. I just hope this month is successful and I don't have to worry about charting again.

We know twins would be more difficult, but because I'm almost 40, we would love to have 2 children without having to try to get pregnant again. I'm glad the odds improve with clomid and advanced age!

Oh my goodness what a story. it sounds like you've been through a lot. I'm keeping my fingers and toes crossed for you x (especially on the twins front x)

We've been trying to get pregnant for 3 and half years. I was told everything was fine by my GP and just to be patient for the first 2 and a half when out GP finally agreed to refer us to a fertility specialist. They took one look at my bloodwork and told me that the problem was I wasn't ovulating! Why did someone not notice that before?! I was on the pill for a very long time (not sure why I bothered now) but when I came off my cycles were very irregular and I had random spotting for up to a week before my period (hence the freak out this month). I'm a little overweight and to go on clomid I had to loose 14lbs. i worked really hard and did it in 3 months (I cannot recommend the 5:2 diet highly enough). The suggestion has been my ovulation problem may be related in part to my weight but losing weight has made no difference. I have been so hopeful but as the cycles go on it's hard to maintain that same level of excitement and hope. I have friends who've had two babies in the time we've been trying for one!

I totally agree that it would be great to stop charting. My temps went up a tiny tiny bit today but are really about the same as the previous two days. I'm still spotting but I guess the fact that they haven't got down more might be a good sign.. i'm not very hopeful as it looks really like last months chart (with the exception of the really early spotting this time). My boobs were really sore yesterday and I felt really dizzy in the evening so my DH and I did a test which we knew would be normal but felt we should anyway (we both have scientific training but with all of our education when it comes to your personal stuff it all goes all the window). Well it was unsurprisingly negative. Hey ho.. as they say here "keep calm and carry on".
