OBGYNs and Clomid

Postby daystardreams » Wed Apr 15, 2015 3:58 pm

I've read a lot about having to be closely monitored while on Clomid but I've read a lot about people taking it unmonitored also. I was wondering what the majority of people are doing here. I've heard some people had to have ultrasounds every other day while others never had an ultrasound. I have a meeting with my doctor to talk about treatment options and I think Clomid is one of those options. I can't afford the drive and missing work to be closely monitored but I'm nervous about not being monitored at all.

Quick TTC history on me- I started trying in February 2014 and got my first BFP that first cycle. It ended in a D&C because of a blighted ovum, we started trying again in May. It took 7 months before we got our second BFP which resulted in a chemical pregnancy in December 2014. I haven't ovulated since December which was proven with progesterone tests on CD 21.
EDIT: I forgot to say that I was dx with PCOS via blood draws and ultrasound in January.

So I'd love to hear your history (why you are prescribed Clomid or Femara) and what type of monitoring your doc does. I'd also like to know if you are with an OB or an RE. Thanks!

Hi Day, I'm sorry about your mc and your chemical pregnancy. Getting pregnant is such an exciting moment and then only to lost it shortly after is the worst feeling in the world.

I did three rounds of clomid (started with 50, then went to 100 and stayed at 100) My doctor wanted me to be monitored on the first round but said that the others would be okay as long as the first one showed that I wasn't getting any cysts or overstimulating my ovaries. I have a pretty crazy work schedule and was not able to be monitored on the first so all I got was a day 21 progesterone check and was told I'd be monitored with u/s the next cycle. My doctor was pretty lenient on my monitoring which in a way was kind of nice. I never had any severe cramping or side effects from the clomid so I don't think it was an issue. Turns out I didn't get monitored for any of my clomid cycles I just had day 21 progesterone checks which all showed I didn't ovulate, but here I am, 6 weeks pregnant. I was with an OBGYN the whole time. He said that if I didn't get pregnant after getting up to 150mg of clomid that he would refer me to an RE.

Thank you for the response. I met with my OBGYN yesterday and she decided to put me on Femara instead. I'll have to have three ultrasounds (at most) starting at Day 14 then continuing if no signs of ovulation that time and also the progesterone test.
