Starting Femara

Postby southernbelle » Sat May 09, 2015 8:49 pm

I'll be 10dpo tomorrow and so far bfns :( OB wants me to start Femara next cycle. I'm really worried and nervous about it. Can anyone share their experiences with me? I'd also love to know what led you down the Femara path. Thanks ladies!

Sorry for BFNs. This s is my first Femara cycle. So far no side effects or anything and only on CD 6 today but I can tell you what led me here.

Started TTC in February '14, conceived right away though it was a blighted ovum. I had a D&C and started trying again in May '14. We tried for seven cycles before getting pregnant again in December which resulted in a chemical pregnancy. In January I was diagnosed with PCOS. My doctor thinks although I do ovulate that I have weak ovulation. She said Femara works well with PCOS and recurrent early miscarriages so we're giving it a whirl!

My goodness, I'm so sorry to hear that. I've had a chemical, a live birth, and two back to back early miscarriages which is why my ob has put me on this path. I really hope it works out next time! Good luck to you.

I started Femara after being diagnosed with PCOS after about 6mo TTC. I was ovulating but not that strong. 2nd cycle I got my BFP, however it ended in m/c. My doctor is not thinking the Femara had anything to do with it since it's out of your system before O. No symptoms besides for some mild headaches. Good luck!

HI Southern Belle,
I did two cycles of clomid with no response so my RE switched me to Femara. I have PCOS and typically those with PCOS respond better with Femara, plus the side effects are much less than clomid. She always starts at the lowest dose, so I did a cycle of 2.5 mg with no response and then got bumped up to 5mg. I had a chemical on my second cyle and then no response to Femara on my next cycle (weird, i know!). So, at that point we decided to switch to a combination cycle of Femara and injectibles. I take 2.5 mg of Femara for CD 3-7 and then stim with Gonal F CD 8 till maturity. I will say that I had terrible side effects on clomid (mood swings, weight gain, headaches, etc). On Femara I only get a low grade headache on CD 6 and CD 7. After starting acupuncture, she added a liver support that I take twice a day and headaches are gone! While I haven't had a BFP with Femara, I am hopeful that it will come soon. Good luck to you!
