Pregnant at 41

Postby heather39 » Sat Apr 02, 2011 1:10 pm

I've been lurking here for a while, and I wanted to post my BFP. After two years of trying including seven months on clomid and 5 IUIs, I got pregnant on my third IVF. I had my first HPT a week ago, and the first beta was Wednesday. At my age and with all the time and money I've poured into this adventure, I didn't really celebrate until the second beta came back yesterday. Now I'm going around repeating to myself over and over. "I'm pregnant." It still doesn't seem real.

My first ultrasounds is next week (5 weeks). We probably won't see anything except the thickness of the lining, but weekly ultrasounds with the RE until I reach 8 weeks are standard procedure for IVF patients. After 8 weeks I can start seeing my regular OB-Gyn again.

My Betas are high enough I might have twins. Call me crazy for putting in 5 embryos, but we did that last time and nothing stuck. My husband and I agreed to do selective reduction if there are more than two. So much to worry about!

I rested more after ET than last time, and I also ate pineapple and took zinc. The big difference though was the estrogen priming protocol, which was new for me. Did ganirelix the first two times with 2 and 5 embyos transferred. While there weren't more embyos this time, I think they were of higher quality. I took DHEA, melatonin and vitamin E, which are all supposed to help with that, but they take time to work. I think the DHEA especially works better after several months of taking it, and I just started that in December.

This group is very inspiring with so many pregnant ladies over 40 and several recent births. I hope that I am so lucky. Also, I've seen some recent losses, and my heart goes out to all of you, as I am very fearful of m/c as well.

Thanks, I hope I can inspire other women my age to keep trying. Overcoming infertility can be such a long and difficult process.

Today, I am 7 weeks, and I heard the babies' heartbeats and saw them on ultrasound today. I'm so excited!

I just got my bfp on 4/28. I will be due in January. It was my first ivf, one embryo transferred the day before my 41st bday. This is my first baby. My dh and I have tried for two years (natural, iui and ivf).

Glad to know there are other 41 year olds around that are preggo. I was beginning to feel like the only one. :-)
