Need some hope after 2nd M/C

Postby ready2Bmom » Thu Jul 19, 2012 8:26 am

Hi ladies-
I've been on the TTC boards for a bit now.
We finally got our BFP with our 1st IVF cycle in May. It just ended today. No heartbeat at the 9wk U/S. Going in for a D&C tomorrow.
I'm devastated. I'm 42...
This is our 2nd M/C. First one was exactly 1 year ago after a natural conception. We did a few IUI cycles this year and then onto IVF.
We had 4 embryos make it to the 5 day transfer. We transferred 2 and froze 2.
Now I'm not trusting the viability of any of them.
I guess plenty of women went on to have a healthy baby after 2 M/Cs in their 40s, right?

I don't remember the recovery time (physically) after a D&C. I know the emotional recovery is a long road.
The Dr said we'll need to wait 2-3mths before the FET, depending mainly on how long it takes for the Beta to get to 0.

Thanks for any and all advice...

ready2Bmom, I am so sorry... I cannot imagine what you are going thru. If there is one bright note in this it is that you know you can get pregnant so that's great. Now they need to figure out what is causing the M/C. I have read many forums where this has happened and the women did end up having a successful pregnancy. I myself am 43 and have never been able to even get pregnant and I have been reading and researching anything and everything I can get my hands on. There is alot of talk lately about the supplement COQ10. Research is suggesting that it is successful with helping egg strength quality. That might be something you would want to speak to your Dr about and also do some research about it.

I will keep you in my thoughts tomorrow during this sad time.

Thank you so much. I've actually taken that before. I'll get back on it more consistently.
Good luck to you too - this week I've heard of two different women (one 45 and one 47) who just had babies thru IVF with their OWN eggs...

I am so very sorry you are going through this again, I know all too well the pain of such losses (check my signature). I just wanted to post a quick reply to hopefully give you some hope, after 4 losses, and me being 45 years old, our little one arrived June 08 and is smiling at me as I type this. We could easily have given up after all that we went through, I am so glad we kept going!

Be good to yourself and allow yourself to grieve this loss, but try to keep your hopes alive too...it can happen. Wishing you best of luck on your next try.

Ready2Bmom,
I'm so very sorry - how devastating for you. Be kind to yourself during this time of recovery, and do take hope and comfort from Halifax's story - it can happen.

Ready2BMom, so so sorry, I too know exactly where you are today. Hope you heal quickly physically and emotionally and have another go, like Halifax says, and has proved, it can happen. Take care xxx

*lurking*

I had the exact thing happen to me 4 years ago (I was 40). We had seen the heartbeat at 7w, then waited till our 12w scan just to see that the embryo had stopped growing at 9w. We were devastated because we thought we were safe, there had been no warning. Anyway I had a D&C and got pregnant with a healthy boy the very next cycle. I have heard that the D&C procedure improves your chances for conception since it leaves your uterus all nice and clean! I don"t know about that but it sure worked for me.

Don't give up and good luck

hey ladies-
Got my D&C results - Trisomy 11. Apparently it's from the maternal side. boooo. But I guess I figured that already.
My Beta was already down to 113 yesterday (1wk post D&C), so hopefully my cycles get back to normal quickly.
I'm still just crying out of no where. It's strange. I'll feel fine and looking forward to the FETs, and then suddenly I'm crying.

First of all I am incredibly sorry you lost your little one and offer you my love from afar.
After I had my D&C I had a huge crash from the hormones dropping rapidly that my doctor said is basically post partum depression. So that along with the real depression of losing a baby is a double whammy. It does get better with time but you never forget that little baby.
I would push to get going with your FET after you have AF and one normal cycle. I did that and my body definitely needed the time to get a really wacky cycle out of its system but I was able to become pregnant the next cycle. That was 10 weeks after the D&C.
