Did I wait too long?

Postby raybuth » Sat Dec 22, 2012 6:20 am

Ladies, after 10 years of battling a significant weight issue, DH and I agreed I was healthy enough to TCC. However, now I am 43 and the statistics they share appear dismal at my age :(

I spent my 20's building a career. I spent years 29 & 30 with a sick husband (no longer with us). I feared I would never have kids when I fell in love with DH #2. By miracle or pure luck, my 2nd DH and I conceived DS when I was 33 (5 months before we married)! It was during a very busy period in our lives when I travelled on busines a bunch, so DS was the result of a very passionate Valentine's Day night! No effort required!

Now that I have lost 140 lbs, we are ready! We have only been TTC for 2 cycles, but I'm really scared that I have blown it and waited too long. When AF arrived last night, I was devastated. I Would really love to hear success stories and share this ride with some of you that are in the same boat. Join me and let me know your story :)

Hi Ray,
I'm 43, been married to my first husband for a little over two years. We started trying for our first child together this past October. DH has a son from his first marriage, that wife passed away from breast cancer over 5 years ago. DSS is 6 1/2.

Technically there is nothing wrong with me other than age and a thyroid condition. I just started new meds for thyroid on October 1 and my cycle lengthened back to almost normal at 26-27 days (I used to be a 28 day girl with no variation). I'm ovulating - I know it b/c of temping and OPKs. I've cleaned up my diet to be organic and pasture raised food. I tend to avoid gluten (helps with my arthritis).

DH and I are convinced we can conceive on our own, but we also have our faith that God will grant us the child we want together. We dont' want DSS to be an only child. We have ruled out IVF, IUI and donor eggs for us...so the most we'll do is a drug to stimulate egg production.

Don't get too discouraged yet, but after 3 months of TTCing you should see an RE. 6 months is too long to go at our age. Keep positive, keep exercising, temp and use OPKS. keep stress to a minimum - it can really screw with your body.

Good luck!!

Glad to hear from you! It's nice to hear from others. I used to be a solid 28 day girl too, but that's started to slowly change. I know my hormones are normal, so that's a good sign.

I understand wanting a sibling for your DSS. I have a 18 yr old DSS who lives in another state and DS misses him terribly when he is not here. I am sure that God will provide us both what we need when the time is right. Merry Christmas.

I conceived my fourth child at the age of 42 and delivered him at 43 so there is definitely hope. My husband is ready to try for another but I just turned 45 today and haven't had EWCM since having my son. I had an IUD placed after having but had to have it removed 6 months later due to constant spotting and bleeding. Since that time we have not been trying or preventing. Maybe now we will put more heart into trying.

Hi Raybuth, don't get discouraged, although it does take longer to concieve after 40 it is very possible. I joined this forum in March 2012 and have seen at least 9 women over 40 get a BFP ... so it can be done. Each cycle can and will get frustrating but losing the weight will help. Also you may want to consider taking your morning temperature (and perhaps investigate joinging http://www.fertilityfriend.com to record your daily temperature) if you are not aware of your cycle, when you O, if you have O'd, etc.

Also the ladies on this forum are a wealth of knowledge and no questions is a dumb question so join the Cycle On thread, introduce yourself and join in the rollercoaster ride we all like to call TTC :o

I just wanted to say good luck!! I had my 9th baby when I was 40 (conceived at 39) I am now 42 almost 43 and been ttcing about 6/7 months but starting to get aggressive now. I am very optimistic that I can conceive again. I am still ovulating regular and have regular for me cycles and have tons of EWCM both good signs of still having a reserve with eggs LOL.

Thanks, Ladies.

I am saddened to say that AF did arrive for me this morning - right on time . She arrived like a lamb this month, so I am grateful for that. No cramps, no spotting, no bloating or backache. I knew before I got out of bed when I saw that my temp had dropped again. Luckily, she was there waiting for me this morning, so I do not have to spend the entire day wondering!

Now that I've had a brief pity party on my end, I figure if I'm out, I am out and we might as well move on. Right?? So for me, I am onward to cycle #4, so I'm right back in the saddle. Here's hoping we can catch one of those remaining good eggs soon!!

Ruth, what I find helpful is that I have a one day pity party where I can cry, be mad, be selfish! Then the next day I start my new cycle with a fresh outlook thinking new cycle, new beginning!
