Would like some opinions on Vitex

Postby Lmswebnet » Sat Mar 02, 2013 3:10 pm

Hi,

I'm in my 40s and TTC for 18 mos. Since I went off BC in July 2011, my cycles have been very regular at 27 or 28 days. I usually only have spotting a day or two before, but I start cramping at least a week before AF almost every month. I was sort of paying attention to CM for the past year, but I just learned how to check properly a couple weeks ago. I think it's been okay quality and the timing right when I would expect, but I'll have a better idea about that within a month or two. I have been taking multivitamins with folic acid pretty regularly for a year, and I recently added: vitamin c, zinc, calcium, DHA (fish oil), COQ10, baby aspirin, and B6. I also drink Raspberry Leaf Tea the first half of my cycle and Nettle Tea throughout. I just started Clover Leaf Tea this last cycle and drank it until about 7 dpo (because that's what seemed to feel right to my body). Today is CD 28 and I think AF is on the way and I had a BFN yesterday. I'm thinking about starting a Vitex tincture when AF comes, because I'm thinking the cramping might indicate low progesterone during LP. I'm concerned though, because I've heard stories about women messing up their cycles with Vitex and I think mine is okay (but probably not great). I also don't know what to do if I start Vitex and then get a BFP one month. Does anyone have any thoughts on whether or not I should start Vitex and, if so, how/when I should use it?

Hi LMS - I have been taking Vitex for a few cycles. I haven't found that it has a negative effect on my cycle. Having said that, I also take a bunch of other supplements (red rasberry leaf, Ovaboost, Vitamin B and C, Folic acid, baby aspirin, EPO from AF to O, prenatal) so I can't say that it alone is helping my cycle either. I think it helps make your cycles mild by regulating the hormones. You can take the Vitex daily, however you should discontinue once you determine you are pregnant. For low progesterone, I would suggest vitamin b if you can't get a progesterone prescription. Hope this helps!

Thanks Shanessa, it's nice to hear from someone else who is taking vitex along with other things . I dont know why i waited so long to get serious about supplements. I think this forum has helped me understand how important they can be. I started a bunch of vitamins last month (including B) and am going to go ahead and add the vitex this month. I'm thinking I'll start looking into EPO too if no BFP by next month.
