When am I entitled to help

Postby mountainbaby » Mon Mar 25, 2013 6:22 am

I have been trying to conceive for 8 months. After last cycle I went to the doctor. Made the mistake of telling her I thought only 4 out of 7 months were viable due to BD timing. She told me she'll do blood tests in 2 months but if that was ok I had to wait a year. Otherwise she told me just to relax. She doesn't really know much about this i mentioned concern about low progesterone as i spot before AF and she hadn't heard of it I'm 40 next month, surely I am entitled to more help than this.

Most doctors will proceed with checking and testing after 6 months of TTC if you are 35+. Did you point out your age to her because generally they wait a year with younger women.

Yes. I did point out my age. It comes up on her screen. I always hoped I could conceive naturally, my grandmother had 4 over 40 and didn't have the help then. But I know time is running out and if it is s matter that can be helped by progesterone or clomid then I want a chance to try.

HI, it makes me mad to hear this.... I recommend you take control of this and tell them what YOU want, dont go off their timeline, let them know how important this is to you and call back and tell them you would like to have some initial blood work done, tell them you want a FSH test on CD3, also a AMH test on CD3, get a 7 day after ovulation progesterone test done, and have DH seman analysis done... all the above can give you some initial good guidelines to start with and then you can game plan from there on what is needed or not needed.. I have found my OB is pleased that I know what I want and is willing to give me the things I request, I just had to ask and show her that I was serious and wanted this quickly. I will add, my Dr was not willing to give me clomid without the 1st top things done and also a HSG test since I do not have children yet.

is this your OBGYN or primary Dr? If primary move to a OBGYN...

Hi second chance. Thanks. I am in the uk. I need my GP to get access to ob/gyn. She really does not know much about TTC. I will try and get referral from another GP. If not will consider going private. I met DH late. I have no time to waste.
