Vitex: Success Stories?

Postby acbieri2011 » Wed May 25, 2011 7:28 pm

I'm April i've been on here off and on since 2007. I can't remember my previous username so I had to make a new one. I don't have insurance to get what I need to do done because i'm sure i'm going to have to do furthur treatment than clomid as i've tried it before and it didn't work. Haven't tried femara. It's just heartbreak over and over for my husband and I. We were going to try to wait until I was 30 to try again because i'll be done with school and hopefully be working a good job. But I was thinking of trying vitex for 6 months to see if it would help at all. So I was wondering if any success stories out there? I've read through posts but I just wanted to see if anything new. Thanks so much and God bless! :)

I think most people take around 800 mg a day (2 pills). That's what I was taking. It's slow working, although some people notice a difference immediately. IT worked for me. Made my cycles shorter.
Just wanted to add, though- most girls who take vitex also take b6 b/c irregular girls tend to also have short LPs... Just don't take it before you O b/c it can delay it. I learned that the hard way. My cycles got much shorter thanks to vitex and I started taking a whole bunch of b6 and suddenly my cycles got loooong again. I finally figured it out and stopped the b6 (until after O) and I got my BFP the next month.

Anyway, yea, it seems to work pretty well but nothing hugely drastic. Have you tried soy? That seems to be a quicker fix. I never tried it. Good luck! I don't think it would do any harm just to try for a while.

Hey there!

I also have PCOS, and I tried vitex with little improvement.

However, I saw in your siggy that you are on Ortho Tricyclin as your B/C. I felt compelled to tell you that I have found a bunch of studies that concluded that ANY Triphasic B/C (the kind where the pills are three different colors) aggravate PCOS big time! I have been on it, and my cysts doubled in size in the 3 months I was on it.

If you are going to hold off till your 30 to TTC I would recommend looking into trying Yasmin/Ocella (not Yaz/Beyaz, its a different formula). It has done wonders for me with my PCOS symptoms, and my Dr. pointed out at my last ultrasound that my cysts had gone down considerably in size and she believes this will actually make it easier for me to conceive once I get off.

Sorry for going off topic, I just thought I would say something so that the problem didn't get worse for you. PCOS is hard enough without adding to it!

I was DX years ago and have done countless hours of research and tried all kinds of treatments so if you ever have any questions feel free to PM me any time!

:)

I just placed an order for Vitex, Raspberry Leaves and Soy Isoflavones.
I have not yet been diagnosed with PCOS but I will be doing testing this cycle for it. I have previously been tested and told I DID NOT have PCOS.
My RE suggested starting Metformin, Clomid AND an HCG booster---which seems like a lot on my body.

My plan is to take the Vitex daily, Raspberry Leaves daily, and Soy Isoflavones on days 3-7 then begin OPK testing on day 10 and see what happens. I have NEVER seen a positive OPK.

My husband and I have agreen to go the natural route for 3 months and if there is no significant change in my cycles, then we'll jump into the crazy pants business the RE is talking about...

I had started using Vitex a week ago because I didn't get an AF after coming off the pill 3 months ago and was starting to worry it would never come.

Started Vitex on Tuesday and AF came Saturday - hope this is helpful for you.

Re: Vitex: Success Stories?

I used vitex and high dose B6 to help regulate my cycle after getting off of the pill in November 2012. I wasn't ovulating consistently (or at least my temps were erratic and I had no consistent CM) and my cycles were slightly irregular and longer than they had been prior to the pill (before the pill, -30 days, after, ~33 days). I knew I had a tendency toward a shortish LP from previous charting (~10-11 days, and in the month after I got off the pill, only 8 days). I was also spotting intermittently throughout my cycle.

I started vitex in mid-January 2013 toward the end of my cycle. I ovulated in February and had a 14 day LP. I ovulated again in March (strongest ovulation I've ever had, complete with a temp dip and about 4 days of EWCM) and had my first BFP at 12 DPO.

Just wanted to share my experience and also to say that mine was different from one of the above posters' in regards to the vitamin B6; I certainly credit the B6 with lengthening my LP, but it did not make me ovulate any later (in fact, probably to the vitex's credit, I ovulated earlier in March than in February, so my cycle would have been shorter had I not gotten the BFP).

Also wanted to note that I did experience spotting while on the vitex, but unlike before I started it, it only occurred a few days before and during ovulation. I had zero spotting after ovulation. Spotting is a known side effect of vitex, for those of you who are worried, and it didn't seem to negatively affect my fertility :).

Hi ladies! Quick question.. Are you supposed
To take vitex all days of cycle? Or only
Specific days ? Do u think taking prim rose
Oil in addition to vitex is too much?

Thanks ladies!

I've been off BFP for a year and my cycles have been long and irregular. Last fall I miscarried and after that my cycle just STOPPED for three months. I took a ten day round of Provera to jump-start my period, and then started Vitex in an attempt to regulate my cycle more naturally.

I think the Vitex is WORKING for me! My past two cycles were 44 days (ovulation on day 23) and 45 days (ovulation on day 25). Yes, these are still long cycles. But they are a lot shorter than they used to be, I'm ovulating, and my cycles are becoming more regular and predictable.

As for dosage -- for the first four weeks I took three pills per day (breakfast, lunch, dinner) and then switched to one pill per day (at breakfast) for maintenance. I take it throughout my cycle.

Good luck to you! I hope the Vitex helps you like it has done for me. GL and babydust :)

I keep reading about vitex. What is it? I've never heard of it before.

I'm currently on cd 87 while on metformin 1000 mg 2x daily. I was diagnosed with PCOS 9 months ago and metformin regulated my cycles up until Feb then they went wacky again. I just found out my estrogen is high on top of my testosterone being high. My endo is at a loss as to why my cycles went wacky again. I thought I might have been pregnant because I spotted beginning of May but I'm unsure if its a possibility or not now. Sorry for the off topic but felt I should tell you a little about myself.

hopingandwishing -- I didn't have a chance to let me doctor know about Vitex because I got my BFP last month :D I guess you could consider me a Vitex success story now!

refneckgurl -- Vitex is a substance made from the angus castus plant that can help naturally regulate your body's hormones. Since coming off birth control my cycles were really long and irregular. My longest cycle was 90 days and I eventually had to take Provera to induce a period, which was a terrible experience for me (Provera gave me crazy hot flashes and mood swings). After that I started taking Vitex -- at first 3x/day for four weeks and then once/day after that to maintain per instructions on the bottle.

My first cycle on Vitex I ovulated on CD23 and got my period on CD44. The second cycle on Vitex I ovulated on CD25 and got my period on CD45. My last cycle I ovulated on CD24 and got my BFP at 10dpo!!! So yes, I definitely credit Vitex with helping to regulate my cycle and allow me to get pregnant!

Good luck ladies! :D

I got a bfp this morning so I'm still in shock a bit. I guess this explains my higher than normal hormone levels.

I was using Vitex for several months in 2009 when I conceived my son - I had been having very irregular cycles.

The cycle that I conceived, I took 1000mg from CD5-22. I didn't end up ovulating until around CD27, and got my BFP on CD43.....

Like some others have said, it can delay/suppress ovulation - hence why (i think) i didn't ovulate till after i stopped taking it that cycle. But obviously, it didn't ultimately do any harm.

I would recommend trying it - but seeing how your body responds to it and trusting your instincts... One of those things that will work slightly differently for everyone.
good luck :D
