Vitex and B6 remedy

Postby MrsSmith13 » Tue Jul 03, 2012 2:41 am

Hi ladies. DH and I have been ttc since November 2011, problem is, after January of this year, my periods became irregular and I have not been ovulating. Just last week, after doing some research, I decided to try vitex (also known as chasteberry) and b6 vitamins together. Apparently, vitex is like the herbal version of clomid. It balances progesterone and LH in the body to help bring on ovulation. After reading rave reviews and lots of success stories, I decided to try it for myself. Haven't seen results just yet, but as an herb, I know it takes at least 2-3 months to fully work its way in your system. Another bemefit is that it is inexpensive. You can find it at your local whole foods store. Just a heads up!

Hi MrsSmith13, I too started to take Vitex recently. I've been taking it for 3 weeks and 3 days. I havent seen results either. My cycles are irregular but when I mean irregular is maybe a week late then early then on time, etc. However, this cycle has been my longest ever, I am on CD 77. I made an apptmnt with my dr for 7/19. I know she is going to give me provera. I hope that was i need to jump start my body and then ill continue to take Vitex.

I know I ovulate but I guess not that often. This year I ovulated in February and then April and till this day I am still waiting.

How long have you been taking Vitex?

I've been taking it for about a week now. Maybe you should bump your Mg up to 800 or 1200 instead of only 400. Maybe that's why you haven't seen any results yet?

I already do, I take 1200mg a day. My pills are 400mg each one and I take 3x a day which is a total of 1200mg per day. Thats what the bottle says 1 pill 3x a day.

Oh ok. I think that you should give it a couple more weeks in order to let it work its way into your system. Remember, vitex is an herb and takes a little while to start working depending on the person.

Yes, I am trying to give it some time. I guess I thought it would work fast for me since I have read some reviews were they get it days or even a week later. I was hoping I would be one of those that would have that sucess story.

I was like you, I was a little hesitant to try it but I did. I like that I dont have any symptoms from it. I am hoping that from here to my doc appointment I would have gotten AF if not provera it will be.

Same here! I read one success story where the person got pregnant only one month after starting vitex. I was hoping that would be the case for me, but I'm going to try for another couple of weeks and see what happens. The longest cycle I've ever had was 46 days long, and the shortest was 27 days. If I get anything from vitex, I mostly want my cycles to be regulated so that I can pin point ovulation.

Thats exactly what I want too. I want to pin point ovulation. This is my longest cycle ever. I am still using OPK's because you never know if Vitex would make me ovulate this late in my cycle. I have heard/read of people getting pregnant on a late cycle.

Last night I ordered more bottles of Vitex. I hope Vitex works for both of us.

It does work! Hope it works for you guys. I think it's one of those "works differently for different people at different times" sort of things. I used it two years ago and got pg within a week with my daughter. I started using it again after trying for #2 for several months thinking we would have the same result, but still waiting. My last cycle was 75 days :( It def does help, but not always the same. It does help me feel like my hormones are better balanced though.

Wow! One week? Thats wonderful. I'm currently on CD 32 and feel ovulation like pains on my lower right side. I'm about to take an ovulation test and update you on the results. I've been on vitex now for about 8 days.

I know! I couldn't believe it! Was not expecting it to work like that. I hope you are ovulating!

WOW! I wish I could become pregnant is one week. On Sunday, it will be 4 weeks of me taking Vitex. I am on CD 79 and no sign of O or AF. I have to see my OB-GYN in less that 2 weeks for my annual so I will be asking for Provera to bring on AF and then I will start again Vitex. Maybe it will regulate my ovulation after AF.

MrsSmith13 - I hope you are O'ing!!

Thanks you all! Turns out I'm not O'ing :( But hopefully those uterine twinges are my body reacting to the vitex. Which would mean that after only one week, its already working its way into my system pretty good :D
