Reasons for Irregularity

Postby txrangersfan » Thu Jul 19, 2012 12:57 pm

I have been irregular all of my life, before and after the pill. I had tests done when we first ttc bc we have a family history of some issues and everything checked out fine.

I don't have pcos, hyperthyroid, or high prolactin levels.

Since all of that checked out fine, what would be reasons for irregularity? Is it just one of those, 'that's just the way it is' things, or do you guys know of additional reasons?

Any insight would be helpful!! Thanks!!

Perhaps some kind of nutritional issue? Also being underweight or overweight can have an effect.

Hi txrangersfan, I am the same as you, and the doctor told me some people 'just are' in other words they don't really know why. My mum and two of my sister are too, frustrating isn't it. I'm trying that fertilitea this month to try and make them more frequent. Just have to wait for af and then I can, cd46 today though. X

Thanks for the replies!!

I'm average weight, exercise regularly, and eat really well. Maybe I'm just one of those that is irregular for no reason.

It is really difficult to have fewer chances a year to TTC.

Hunnybunny-How spaced are your periods? Did you think you were Oing until the doc said you weren't? I'm worried I'm not ovulating. I get ewcm and pos opks, but I still have doubts.

no i hadnt ovulated for 9 months my periods would range from 26 days to 100 and since i started clomid they have been from 26 - 35 much improvement. however i can only do another 4 cycles of clomid then i have to stop, i have always been this way conceiving my son was a fluke and my daughter was 4 months off the pill so i was sort of regular then but since having her everything was messed up drs told me to lose 10% of my body weight so i lost 13% and it still hasnt made a difference

Both of my tubes were block. That and Endo were causing my infertility. I had my tubes cleared but I still dont O, I assume from the Endo.

Re: Reasons for Irregularity

Postby Moose82 » Sun Oct 28, 2012 8:57 pm

Hi all. I'm in the same boat. I've been on bc for about 7 years (finished up this March) and was irregular for years before I started bc. My first three cycles after stopping bc were perfect 28 - 30 day cycles, but since then they've ranged from 14 days to 66! Mostly they've been on the longer side. I've had two full blood work ups to check hormones, thyroid etc etc everything under the sun. Everything came back perfectly normal. I've had an ultrasound to check for pcos and apparently my ovaries are 'perfect' in my drs words. She said I am reproductively sound and there is no medical reason for my long cycles. But here I am on cd 46 and counting. My dr doesn't want to prescribe my any Meds yet either as she says there is no problem to be treated (ie off hormone levels etc)

I temp every morning and religiously use Fertility Friend to try and pin point ovulation but it just gets depressing when it seems like I'm not ovulating and each year I have fewer changes to concieve than a woman with a normal menstrual cycle.

Ive got a healthy bmi, eat clean and exercise 6 days a week with a combination of bootcamp, running, swimming, personal training, Pilates, walking - max 3.5 hours a week vigorous activity though so I'm not overdoing it. If things keep dragging out I'm going to try some alternative therapies, I.e. acupuncture...

On a positive note Fertility Friend thinks I o'd last week so that means I'm 5dpo. Just have to wait and see if anything comes of it.

So that's me, normal but not!
