Irregular Cycles, off BCP for seven months now

Postby CarlyRose3 » Thu Oct 18, 2012 2:17 am

Hi, My name is Carly and I'm 24 yrs old. My fiance and I decided to start TTC in the beginning of the new year. We agreed since I had three birth control packs left, I would finish them out then not pick up more. My last package finished in March 2012 and I got my period as usual. Then my period in April came about 34 days into my cycle. I missed my period in May and thought "oh my god could it have happened this fast!?" I took a test and unfortunately, it was negative. I then got my period the second last week of June. Then again in July, I missed my period. Again, I thought I could be pregnant. I took another test and of course, no I was not. During the first week of August I had some pain in my left side above my hip. I waited a week as I'm a nurse and am very reluctant to go to the doctor's. After the week of still having pain I thought "ok I need to get checked out". I went to the walk-in clinic because my family doctor is VERY difficult to get ahold of. The walk-in clinic doctor simply ran a urine speciment which came back normal then decided I had either ovulated or a cyst had ruptured. About two weeks later, I got my period. In September I again missed my period, however; this time I decided not to bother with a pregnancy test. I'm currently waiting on my period for October which is due to arrive any day now. A week and a half ago my nipples were very sore (TMI) and the past two days I've been having back craps which are common signs my period is coming. I've been on BCP since I was 15yrs old and have no idea if my periods were regular or irregular before.

Hi Carly

my name is Lauren and I am experiencing similar issues to yourself PLUS my husband has issues with him sperm count, motility and morphology and he has a varicocele (a varicose vein in either his testicles or penis).

I was on the pill for 11 years and since i have come off of it almost 12 months ago my periods have been all over the shop. I have been told they are not even sure if im ovulating because you can still get a period when you are not ovulating grrrr. we have been told by a fertility specialist that our best bet is IVF but i refuse to jump into something so invasive and expensive.

Anyway sorry for going out about my life but i do have a reason why im saying this lol. My husband and i have recently started seeing a naturopath which may help help you if you need help regulating your cycles. I have also bought some herbs at the health store which are good for helping regulate cycles. One is vitex agnus castus and dong quai is another herb good for helping regulate cycles.

I honestly believe the natural way can help.

Good luck and keep in touch if you like because it would be nice to chat to someone going through a similar situation :)

Thanks for responding! It's always slightly comforting to know you're not alone lol I actually just got diagnosed with a burst ovarian cyst about two weeks ago. Looks like that's part of my reason for having irregular periods. Now apparently I'll have to have more ultrasounds every few months to make sure the cyst isn't growing back. I'm with you on how expensive IVF is, I mean it's just so much money for something that is supposed to happen natural right? I don't know. I never thought trying to have a baby would be this difficult. I know people say it's hard but I swear everyone I know who's gotten pregnant has gotten pregnant like right away and multiple times! Ugh! I'll definitely look into these natural remedies. I don't know much about them but it couldn't hurt right? Thanks for you story and advice! Good luck to you and your husband!
