So I wanted to update on a topic that I know seems counterproductive to us TTC ladies, but I just had to share my experience! I have long cycles, the longest was 69 days, and they are always irregular. Dh and I have 2 beautiful daughters, but in May 2011 we decided to TTC for our 3rd. Since then we have had 2 miscarriages, but no successful pregnancies. After much research on my own (as we do not have any fertility insurance at all) and conferring with my cousin who is a physician's assistant, we believe that I am estrogen dominant. Here are the reasons why I think this:
Decreased sex drive
Irregular or otherwise abnormal menstrual periods
Bloating (water retention)
Breast swelling and tenderness
Headaches (especially premenstrually)
Mood swings (most often irritability and depression)
Weight and/or fat gain (particularly around the abdomen and hips)
Foggy thinking, memory loss
Yep I had all that. So I read some of Dr. John Lee's research and found a youtube page by Hethir Rodriguez and it said a good way to regulate your hormones, slow down the estrogen dominance, and replenish the stores of progesterone is to do a couple suppression cycles which entails applying 1 tsp of bioidentical progesterone cream daily, broken into 2 doses, one morning, one night. So that's what I did. I bought one of the lesser expensive creams from amazon, and I really like it. I applied 1/2 tsp morning, and 1/2 tsp evening from cd7 to cd25, and I did not ovulate. It is now cd 28 and af has arrived! I wanted to cry for joy when she showed up this morning! A regular cycle??? YAY!!!! It works by basically convincing your body that you are pregnant so your ovaries take a break, then when you go back to a regular cycle, they are recharged! So I will do another suppression cycle next month and then start ttc in September!
And as for my symptoms, my sex drive is back up, my moodiness is much better, no headaches, sleeping amazing well, I have more energy, and breasts which are usually so sore right before and during af, are completely fine! Oh and one more thing I am attributing to the progesterone...I had one crazy hair that would grow from the bottom of my chin...I'd call it "my one old lady hair," and since I have been balancing my hormones it is gone! woohoo!
