I'm so sorry to hear about your dog! My husband and I are huge animal lovers, and rescued a puppy last year. We are completely obsessed with her, and definitely feel like dog parents. My husband and I also talk about what we would do if we could not have kids. As of now, we don't think we would go the IVF, IUI, or adoption route. Even though I think adoption is a beautiful thing, we don't think its right for us (although I think you cant say for sure until you are put in the situation). Like you guys, we said that if its not meant to be for us, we can find a way to find value and meaning in our lives without children. I know it would be really tough for me especially, but I think we could do it. I just turned 30 and my husband is turning 30 in a couple of months. Have you guys talked about maybe getting another dog?

I became a dog mommy in January and I have become obsessed, but it has made me want children more and more. One night my husband was holding our dog (we have a little french bulldog who will be 1 next week) and he was saying, "I wish you could talk back to me". Having a dog has made us want to be parents even more! Isis, I would think about getting another dog too! It would be good to have them both little and the dog and baby can grow up together :)
The thought of not being able to have children honestly scares me. I have had this yearning to be a mom for so long, I don't know what I would do if me and DH weren't able to conceive. I am nervous about my DH, although he hasn't been tested yet so there is no way to know for sure. I'm still trying to figure my own body out before ruling out that he is the issue. When he was in middle school, one of his testicles twisted up internally and he had to be rushed to the hospital and they had to remove it. So, I already know that we are probably faced with a low sperm count considering he only has one. After the surgery the doctor said that he should be fine and should have no problem having children. But it still worries me...
DH is 26, I'm 25, we have been together for 10 years, married for 1.

Hi ladies thanks so much, yes our dog was such a great dog, and we would love to get another one if and when we get pregnant so they can grow together. But were we still rent its hard to have a new puppy with not much of a yard. We have talked about IUI a coworker of DF had just went through it so im not against that if need be. I agree Kflores im figuring out my own body first before seeing if there are any issues with him. His brother and his wife have 4 kids and he's 3 years older them him so hopefully he has no issues either. It would also be hard if we didnt have children we would be heart broken. I just turned 32, and DF is 36 i feel like our time is ticking. :/

I also wished my dog could talk to us, sometimes i would just ask her questions like she would reply! ha Kflores i hope DH for you has no issues either, take it one step at a time with your body first. Babydust any issues with your DH? My DF has asked if she should get his sperm checked but i said lets wait and see on me first even getting a cycle again, no need to do anything with that yet incase its a waste and its not him.

Sorry to hear about your husband's middle school experience...that must have been so painful. As far as we know there are no issues with my husband. But, prior to taking clomid I would want him to get his sperm checked first. I wouldn't want to take medication and those extra steps until I know that everything is okay with his first.

I guess your right babydust, if it came to clomid i might do that as well not as invasive to just get his sperm checked. How did you like taking provera? Im waiting for my OB to put me back on it as well.

Hi Ladies. Your thread caught my eye because I too am TTC #1 after going off birth control pills. Here's my story: I stopped taking the pill in November of 2013 after being on it for about 5 years. I am 28, DH is 29. My plan was to NTNP for a few months, hoping that my cycles would be regular by January 2014 and that we could actively start TTC at that time. I had taken the pill for about a year and then gone off of it in my late teens/ early 20's. I recall that it took 3 or so months for my cycle to return to regular, so I anticipated that the same would be true this time. I had what seemed to be a pretty normal cycle the month after taking the pill. Since I have only had 5 cycles: 71 days, 45 days, 39 days, 52 days, and in my current cycle, today is CD 30. I've had all of the standard blood tests and my results have all been within the normal range. After my 71 day cycle, my obgyn gave me a prescription for clomid. I have taken 50 mg (twice), 100 mg, and 150 mg. However, no dose of clomid helped me to ovulate on time. I have had progesterone blood tests done most cycles, which all confirmed that I am ovulating. This summer I started tracking my BBT, which has been super helpful. About a month ago I started acupuncture. In 3 weeks I have an appointment for a consultation with an RE and am hoping to find more answers to what has been going on with my body. Prior to taking the pill I had regular cycles.

Like many of you, I've seen many people fall pregnant and have babies in the time that I have been TTC. It's been a challenging 11 months, but I still hold out hope that my cycles will return to normal and that I will be able to conceive. I am reaching a point in my TTC journey where my health insurance will start to cover fertility treatments, so soon I will probably be faced with a decision to either pursue further treatment or not. I was VERY hesitant to take clomid and am having a hard time accepting that I might need significant medical intervention in order to become pregnant. DH is very committed to doing whatever it takes and it can be stressful balancing his opinions and my own.

I am pretty active on the clomid board, but am grateful to connect with other women experiencing long cycles after the pill.

Isis I had a great experience w provera- so far I've Only taken it one time. No crazy symptoms, and my periods have always been kind of painful, so I didn't notice a change. The one thing I noticed though was after provera I bled again from day 14-18 when I should have been ovulating.

Welcome to our board! I'm sorry to hear you haven't had succes w clomid. I'm glad though that your insurance covers fertility treatment. Mine covers consultation with a specialist but not any of the procedures. What was your experience on clomid? Did your doctor confirm that you ovulated from taking clomid? You mentioned you and your husband have some difference in opinions. I'm on the same boat- I would prob rather take a natural approach like vitex and hubby is all about western medicine and listening to what my doctor says. What bothers me te most is that whenever you ask a doctor f bc impacts fertility they are so quick to say no, but I don't think our stories are tha uncommon. I'm glad we have each other's support through his journey.

Your husband sounds a lot like mine! I actually bought vitex and had taken it for a couple of days before going in to see my obyn. She told me not to take it and gave me a clomid prescription to take instead. As soon as I mentioned that to DH, he became very worried about vitex. My experience with clomid has been pretty disappointing. It was really hard for me to take, but I did it thinking that I might finally see a "normal" cycle and a bfp. On each of my clomid cycles I have had side effects- hot flashes, acne, and maybe some moodiness. However, no dose of clomid has shortened my cycles. I did have confirmed ovulation on clomid- I went in for blood work about 1 week after I got a positive OPK at home. My obgyn seems a little bit stumped as to why my cycles are still so long and is unsure if my body has responded to clomid at all. Therefore, she referred me to a specialist.

I had absolutely no idea that taking birth control could do such damage to your body. It has been such a frustrating experience for me! I have told many friends about my experience and as a result, most of my married friends that were taking the pill have stopped taking it.

Yes, our husbands sound very similar. Lol. Why didn't your doctor prescribe provera to induce af? I thought Clovis was to encourage ovulation not induce af.
Update for me: I think I may have started af today (day 28) which would be awesome because since stopping bc I haven't had any normal cycles. It's odd though, because based on bbt charting and opk I didn't ovulate 2 weeks ago, so I'm not really sure why I'm bleeding. I'm also not getting typical cramping and although it's def a flow of blood (sorry tmi) it's not the typical large flow I get on day 1. I had spotting yesterday and day before(day doc gave me an internal exam) so I assumed spotting was f/ the exam. But, today I think I'm going to count as day 1. I'm trying not to get my hopes up, but it would be awesome if I can finally have a normal 28 day cycle. I have acupuncture tomorrow, which will hopefully help keep me relaxed.

Hi Babydust, my doctor did prescribe provera but also ordered blood work to see if I had recently ovulated. She said that it wasn't great to take provera if you were pregnant or could possibly be pregnant. Oddly enough, I had ovulated within a few days of going in for my appointment (which was the tail end of a 71 day cycle), so I was able to start clomid without taking provera.

Wow, it would be awesome if you had a perfect 28 day cycle! I typically get some spotting after internal exams too. Hopefully this is the start of a new cycle for you. Are you taking vitex or still on the fence due to DH's opinions?

I tried vitex back in June for 1 month, but stopped because DH and my doctor got in my head lol. Since I didn't take it for that long, it really didn't help my cycles. The only supplement I'm taking now is prenatal vitamins. I am counting today as day 2 of my cycle. Although I haven't had cramps, the blood flow today and yesterday has def been more than spotting. I also plan on using clearblue OPK this month instead of the cheapies. I'm still confused though how it's possible that I had a 28 day cycle and still didn't ovulate.

Hi Mrs S welcome! I'm sorry you are going through a rough time, but we can all be supportive to one another here. I hope you find answers in your RE appointment. I'm still waiting being prescribed provera again, my appointment was over 2 'weeks ago and my Dr still hasn't called to say she filled my prescription for it. Just waiting on that and hopefully get a kick start on my cycles again, for the second time. I will add that i did ovulated late once on a 28day cycle but got my period with on the tww. This was months ago..figures huh!? ha
I had no issues i dont think from provera at the time i took it but a little more pms then usual DF would say! Still no cycle this month yet, this puts me at CD 84 since the first day of my last cycle..blahh. I do have a regular physical on Thursday so im hoping i can get some blood work done from them and see if my levels are in normal range.

I also wanted to note that i have found Molly Sims website(the model) she had been working with a lifestyle fertility expert to help her fall pregnant the first time, and now again at that age of i think 41 with baby #2. Maybe drinking this smoothie will help us all?! :)

Hi Mrs. S! Welcome! I'm so glad to have found a place where I can talk about my issues with girls who share the same! Seriously, if I knew bc would mess me up this bad, I would have never taken it! And, like you mentioned, it frustrates me that doctors are so easy to just say, "No you will not have any issues from taking bc". When I stopped taking my pills back in Feb my doctor said, "Nope, you should have no problems and should go back to a normal period right away". Uh, that is NOT what happened. :( I'm am going to be calling my doctor soon and see if I can get in and get my hormone levels checked and see if they will jumpstart my period since I haven't had a normal flow in over two 1/2 months. Something a little TMI that I want to ask you ladies cause really who else can I ask at this point until I see my doctor, i'm just curious if you have had this happen. A few times after my DH and I BD, I will bleed a bit. Not heavy, but enough that I have to wipe a few times and sleep with a panty liner on. Its not painful at all, no cramps or anything, just blood. This has happened twice in the last month. And something that is new, is after a BM sometimes I will gush some blood. It has happened twice as well. Really freaking me out if you ask me. That has never happened before! I am thinking that it is maybe because I haven't had a period in so long that there is so much blood stored up there, that just a little bit of strain or pressure on my cervix is making blood come out?? Idk, just curious if this has happened to any of you ladies...
babydust- congrats on getting AF at 28 days!!!! FX
