Need some advice...

Postby SamBev » Sat Mar 06, 2010 8:26 am

Hi ladies,
I need some advice, DH and I are currently seeing a Fertility Specialist and he is HIGHLY recommending IUI to us. Yesterday DH and i saw a SHO-TAI practitioner to see what she could say. The result was DH has good sperm count (true confirmed through SA) i have a weak Right Ovarie (could make sense seeing as US everycyle seems to show follies on the left side all the time and not the right). But she also told me that my magniesum was WAY down like unbelievably low she told me that is God's way of protecting me because if i were to get preggo i would most likely MC becuase of the hormone imblanace. She told me the supplements to take to help fix these issues and said it should be fixed fairly fast can't tell me an exact time but said it should help. So the advice i need is:

A. should we proceed with IUI like the doc is suggesting (DH is reluctant about this anyways doesnt really want to go that route)

B. should we take a few months break and take the supplements then get back on the ban wagon after the two months and see if that has helped things?

Oh and i just started what would be my 3rd round of clomid, i dont have ovulation problems but the doc started this as a first line defense, and now taking it in the expectation that we will start IUI. I did tell the doc that DH doesnt want to go that route at least not for another few month.

So what do you guys think? Take a break and take the supplments or start IUI while taking supplements and hope for the best?

Thanks for the help, im really stuck on this.

I think you should just go with what you feel is the right thing to do. Personally I would try the supplements first. I wouldnt want to be all excited and have that bean in there but then worry about something happening to it. It would just be heartbreaking, and also expensive. Maybe you should just try the not preventing not trying thing for a few months while you take the supplements y=and get your body back to where it needs to be for a safe home for that little one.

I hope that helps a little :)

I voted for the supplements - you seem hesitant about the IUI, plus it is expensive, right? If you're willing to take a break, you can take supplements for a few of months while still trying naturally, get your body ready, then do the IUI if you still need to. It seems like the only negative in that scenario is that you put off the IUI for a few months - which may mean more waiting, but it may be that the supplements kick in and you might get your BFP anyway. hth!

The only thing you have to lose by not doing the IUI right now is time. . .and if you feel you have that, I'd say try the supplements. You always have the IUI as a backup. I have an RE that sent us to acupuncture before doing anything else and it worked, and for us, it was money saved and my dh was a little happier. If it didn't work though, on to bigger things.

It's a team decision. What does the other half of your team think?

I don't understand why your doctor is suggesting IUI if nothing is wrong with DH's sperm.
I still voted for the IUI though, but that's mainly b/c I look at it from my own perspective.
I don't feel like we have time on our side so I wouldn't want to wait.
But if you feel like you're ok with waiting to see if supplements work, then by all means do that :)

Good luck with whatever you do decide on :D

I voted for supplements because of your age, really. I think with your background and relatively young age there's not a huge reason to rush the IUI.

I'm 35 (almost 36!) so if/when I get to that point-which will be soon- I will have to consider it much more.

What makes it different for me is DH is completely on board so that makes me more comfortable considering going through a procedure like IUI. Maybe if you just did supplements for a month or two it would give you more time to campaign with your DH and get him completely on board? Then if you get pg naturally you both would be that much MORE excited and happy!!!

Good luck with whatever you choose to do! I hope you get your BFP soon!!!

I missed my doc appt on Saturday (on purpose) Tuesday night had the worst O pains i have ever felt it was horrible even had some blood in the CM this was CD14. I know that there were two follies on the way when i went in on Thursday (on clomid in expectation of doing IUI) Hubby and I had BD'd on Sunday but got home late Tuesday night so didnt BD untill Wed morning. I've talked to hubby and we've decided that IUI is not an option for us at the moment. My insurance covers the cost so thats not the reason we just want to try a little longer o'natural. I guess now i just wait and see if there are any improvements. One thing i did notice since being on the supplements is CM has increased yay!

Thanks for all the replies ladies it really helped me be okay with not going through with IUI right now. We've been TTC for 2 years 4 months now and to be trying for so long and not get any results (which im sure most of you are in the same boat) its very frustrating so in the back of my mind there is the doubt that things will happen naturally. This cycle i have truly become okay with realizing that God is in control not me. It doesnt matter how much i do OPK, or check for EWCM its all up to him. I get that now finally lol after over two years i finally get that! Halellujah, I hope you are all staying positive and GL :babydustg: :babydustb:
