Multi vitamin recommendation?

Postby DVCTink » Mon Apr 25, 2011 5:33 am

Can anyone recommend a good multi or prenatal vitamin that does not contain any fish products or iron? I'm allergic to fish (not just shellfish) and iron in multi's makes me vomit

I'm open to all suggestions - thanks!!

I love Rainbowlight Brand (Wholefoods carries them). Not sure if they make a non-iron or non shellfish one.... :dunno: Sorry, can't be more help.

I've always been told to take Flinstone's Vitamins for TTC and prenatal care. Seems a little too easy doesn't it?

Nto sure if your going to find a multi-vitamin WITHOUT iron, that seems nuts!

Your best bet is to take them with food, or before bed, to lessen the side effects.

I use Wal-Mart's Spring Valley Prenatal that is also a multi-mineral. $4 for 100 tabs

Men's multivitamins don't have any iron in them. I take a men's multivitamin and an additional folic acid supplement. My total daily intake of folic acid is 800 mcg, 400 in the men's vitamin, and 400 in the supplement.

Natural factors brand, super multiple iron free. It already has 800mcg of folic. Also no fish.
As fun as flintstones sound they are made for kids (who need different levels of vitamins than we do) also they are not all natural and have artificial colors and flavors.

Flinstone vitamins? Talk about blast from the past! Once I run out of the pre-natal vitamins I'm taking now, I'm going to buy some Flinstone vitamins :)

I use Super Nutrition Prenatals. They're completely all natural/organic. No fish, soy, gluten, nuts, etc. Iron is pre coated so it doesn't mess with your tummy and it has Vitamin K which should also prevent any upsets. It has 1,000 mcg (1 mg) of folic acid too which is the highest I've seen.

What brand were/are you using? I've noticed bad quality (vitamins from Walmart, GNC, Target, Vitamin Shoppe) vitamins make people sick and don't get absorbed properly. High quality/organic is what your body naturally uses and you'll benefit from it best.

I know this is an old post but I just wanted to say as far as the Flinstone vitamins are concerned a coworker who just had her baby was told by her ob to take 2 of those and folic acid everyday instead of a prenatal because they made her so sick.

I take Flinstones too! My doctor recommended them since the regular prenatals I was taking made me sick.
