Soy

Postby deanab » Tue Aug 30, 2011 12:57 pm

I am so confused about soy!! My cycles are very regular 29-30 days. I ovulate every month, at least, I feel the pain from it around CD 16. However, I am 40 years old and I have read that soy can help produce better quality eggs. I have no clue which days I should take it. I know can be taken CD 1-5, 2-6, or 5-9, but I am confused as to when I should take it. Do I just pick one of those time frames and go with it? Or is there a specific time I should take it for a specific reason? Help please!!! Oh yeah, and how much should I take each day? Thank you in advance for your response:)

Before jumping into taking soy I would consider BBT charting to confirm that you are Oing and OPK to help make sure you are timing BD well. If your cycles truly are regular, and you are Oing on your own, taking soy could actually mess you up. Soy and Clomid are really meant to help you ovulate if you don't O or to help one O earlier if one has very long irregular cycles. I am not saying it couldn't help you, but I have seen some women on here have annovulatory or messed up cycles after taking soy when they were ovulating just fine on their own...just something to consider.
Best of luck!

I O pretty regularly, I used OPK's this last month. Thank you for responding:) I will definitely take all of that into consideration before I decide if I should take it or not.

I ovulate 'naturally' but have been prescribed 50mg of Clomid, just to boost ovulation really whilst I am waiting for my next round of IUI. I wanted to take a break from Clomid last month so took Soy Isoflavones. They did cause a weird cycle for me. I ovulated 2 days earlier than usual, on CD13. From 3 DPO my boobs became extremely sore which of course made me get my hopes up, and think I was pregnant, but I wasnt. AF got me today. I do think it gave me a stronger ovulation though :) Im considering taking them again this cycle. They gave me a lot more side effects than Clomid does. I got headaches whilst I was taking them on days 2 - 6 (I took 4 pills at 40mg each night before bed). After I stopped taking them I felt quite lethargic, leading up to ovulation. So they definitely have changed my hormones that for sure!

Good luck if you start taking them! hope you get your BFP :D

I took soy this cycle as well. If you want better quality of eggs, you'll want to take it at the beginning of your cycle (starting day 1 or 2). If you want more follicles, you'll want to take it at the end (starting day 4 or 5). I don't ovualte on my own, so I took it at the end because that's what my doctor made me do when he put me on Clomid. I hope that helps!
