BFP? What did you do after embryo transfer? Bed rest?

Postby WishingStar » Wed May 06, 2009 5:27 pm

For those that got a BFP, what did you do after embryo transfer? Did you have strict bed rest? Modified bed rest? No bed rest? I know this is very debatable and varies with each clinic and even with each Dr. within a clinic, but I'm just curious to see what you all did. :)

I made a lot of options to make sure all variations are covered, (perhaps too many?...what can I say, I like my details! LOL) but there are always the few not listed, so please explain any "Other combination" if that is what you voted for.

Strict bed rest Must lay down the entire time, only getting up to use the restroom or to see Dr., perhaps limited showers...
Modified bed rest Like being on "house arrest", allowed to eat sitting up or at the dinner table, can make your own lunch, no sex, no exercise, showers OK, etc.
Took it easy, no bed rest Resumed most activities like work and grocery shopping, but 'required' to rest for a few hours each day so as not to overexert yourself. Nothing strenuous, just "relaxed" as much as possible and maybe even had sex! :o 8) ;)
Combination of the three above. Self-explanatory, but please explain what you did/didn't do.
No modifications or changes to activities at all. Life is as it were before TTC or before IVF; resumed work, exercise, sex, anything and everything goes, within reason.

Feel free to post your thoughts on this as well after voting! :) Sadly, not all BFP's make it to live birth, but it would still be helpful to have your vote! :hugs: :praying:

Thank you and God Bless!

I was actually told to be on modified bed rest for the rest of the day of transfer and then go back to work the next day like nothing happened! I transferred four embryos and two took. So I guess it was best that I did not do any additional bed rest or taking it easy!

Good luck everyone!

I did the 24 hour strict bed rest. I slept the entire day except for food and bathroom breaks. I got up once to go downstairs for the evening to watch TV. I went back to work the next day. I did a 5 day blast Frozen Egg Transfer and both took.

I wish the best of luck!!!

These are great! Thanks ladies! And Congrats! :D Let's keep this going...

My RE doesn't require any bed rest of any kind, so I am curious to see what the consensus is in the "general public". :) I'm afraid of moving too much, but I'm also afraid of not moving enough causing my blood circulation to drop. I tend to have low blood pressure as well. I'm thinking I could elevate my feet to help with that if I'm going to lay down. :dunno:

We'll be doing a Day3 transfer of 2 embies (6 eggs retrieved, 2 fertilized, I'm guessing all were mature as they were all between 17.5-19.5mm at trigger). As usual, we won't know the quality of the embies until tomorrow at transfer. I've scheduled acupuncture for before and after as well. Praying this works the first time around as we have NO snowbabies and pretty much no funds unless we're borrowing from family! It really is a shame that insurance companies don't cover this like any other disease/medical condition... :? :praying:

Hi wishing. I just wanted to say thanks for posting this. I am starting my first IVF, and my clinic told us it was "up to us" whether we wanted to do bedrest after transfer. What kind of an answer is that? lol I need specific instructions!

I was thinking of trying to do one day of strict bedrest, and then one day of moderate bedrest, and then resuming with my normal routine. But I am interested to hear what the rest of the BFPs say!

Good luck with your cycle!

i was pretty paranoid...dr. said 3 days of 'couch rest' and i could return to work. i didn't go back to work after 3 days - i stayed on the couch til i got a bfp. i can't credit the bfp to my couch rest (i did not leave my house) but i didn't want to have a failed cycle and wonder if i should have rested more. so in the end, i think i made the right decision!

Wow...any more BFPs out there?? I'm sure there are! This is very interesting! :D Thanks again to those who voted/will vote! As usual, the more votes the better! :D

twinklebug You're welcome! I was looking for the info. myself (and couldn't find much), so I wouldn't be surprised if others were interested in a poll like this. I'm not sure if it's worthy of being a sticky, but it might. ;) It's great that there's someplace to keep all of the bed rest/post ET activity info. in one place to compare them.

Hope your cycle results in a successful pregnancy too! I'd go crazy if it were completely "up to me"! LOL My RE's instructions were to stay off of my feet as much as possible for the first 48 hours with minimal activity. After that, return to normal activity.

So far...I've done modified bed rest for 48 hours and am now just taking it very easy...minus the sex! LOL I'm still not comfortable with that idea... I know the embryos can't fall out or whatever, but still... LOL

Let's keep this thing going! :D

I was advised that "I can continue normal daily activities - the embryo will not drop out! Intercourse is not harmul".
I didn't BD and I basically just took it easy for 2 days and then went about normal activities.

I basically stayed in bed after the transfer except to go out for dinner (we were going to a clinic in the States and we live in Bermuda so we were staying in a hotel). I did this for two days, but took it very easy after that.

I passed the time watching seasons of Sex and the City. :D
