Questions I should ask at IVF consult.

Postby edswife05 » Sat Apr 16, 2011 10:38 pm

We are going for a IVF/options consult with our RE on Tuesday. I was just wondering what questions I should ask her? Any input you ladies may have is greatly appreciated. I never thought that it would come to this but my dh counts fluctuate so much that I this this really is my only option at the moment. I just have to know that we have a good chance before we say that we are done or before we go into our savings and 401K to make this a reality.

at my consult i asked

what could i do to help the ivf work like eating pinapple core, baby asprin and other things like that.

what the success rate was for women around my age

do they give a discount if it fails and are they going to do icsi

you can google "questions to ask about ivf" and it will give you a whole list, i think i asked about 20 different questions but cant remember most of them now. good luck

ask about the protocol and meds, the time line of the procudure ( I am a date freak so I needed to have an idea from start to finish), how much monitoring will be done and at what time of day, do they cycle you as an individual or as a group, success rates overall of clinic ( although I would not put too much stock in rates as each case has no guarantee), who will be your main contact (make sure they are avaiable for all your questions because you will have them and trust me the tiniest thing will make you question something), how soon after a failed cycle ( hopefully yours will not fail) will the dr call to go over things with you, how willing are they to change the protocol if need be ( I went through two cycles and my dr would not change meds which bugged me), ask about financial aspect as far as what is covered and what is not...ask about icsi and assited hatching..some clinics do icsi no matter what and some do not. since your issue is a male issue def. exhaust this topic wehn speaking to the dr...and also ask about egg retrival and transfer ( as far as having them walk you through what happens)..
