My blocked tubes were found during my lap as my gyno did all 3 investigations together under anasthetic (lap, dye work and the third one ive forgotten the name of..sorry)

because of my age I was told to go straight to IVF, though she also said that surgery often doesn't work and can create more scarring. She also said sometimes blocked tubes will clear themselves so to be careful.

not really a lot of help am i..lol..i say if you can afford IVF then go for it!

I only know of 1 person from here on the boards and she doesn't post anymore. She had an ectopic pg'cy and lost 1 tube and the other was completely blocked (I don't remember why it was blocked though). Anyway, she had the tubal cannulization (sp?) surgery and went on to have a healthy baby girl. So I do know that it can be successful!

Do you know why they think it is blocked? (endo, infection, etc) I will say that I have had a dozen laparoscopies over the last 20 yrs for endo and my RE was always concerned about the ammount of scarring that they could cause which could hinder IVF, and if they open your tube and you do not get pg and have to move on to ivf, you'll have a greater risk of an ectopic pg'cy if it's opened.

Many ppl don't realize that an ectopic can still occur with IVF, but they are possible and if you do have a blocked tube that gets opened there is a good chance of scarring being left behind in and/or near the tube, which for whatever reason makes that area tend to be favorable to an embryo for implanting and unfurtunately is always fatal to the embryo.

Do you have any other known IF issues that would still hinder pg'cy if your tubes were opened? (ie. endo, pcos, hostile cm...) If you have never had a laparoscopy/hysteroscope done before, they are a great diagnosis tool for your RE to check and make sure that there are no underlying issues in your uterus. Regardless of which way you choose to go I would still discuss a hysteroscope w/ your RE to make sure that the uterus is clear from issues before trying to have an emryo transfer done.

Wishing you the BEST OF LUCK!!!!

I had both tubes blocked and fluid filled. I had surgery back in 2004, both tubes are still open but I've never conceived. My Dr said chances are rather low, but it really depends on the damage. They are rather surprised that my tubes are still open, as they usually close right back up.

I think it is worth a chance, plus if you do IVF your Dr will most likely want them open prior. If they are fluid filled, te fluid can kill the embryo.
