Trigger too early?

Postby elbee » Sun Sep 11, 2011 5:22 pm

Help ladies, I'm a nervous wreck! I responded the best this cycle than any so far, and it's my 4th IVF attempt. We have severe male factor issues and haven't had fertilization success even with ICSI besides one that fertilized and did not divide past the 2PN stage. So, we need EVERY chance we can get to get a healthy embryo! I did an Estrogen Priming Protocol this time, which helped me get 10 follicles that are fairly close in size, but they grew a little slower this time than in the past even with extremely high doses of meds. Today at my u/s the largest was 17mm and the rest were between 11-16. I thought for sure he'd have me stim for one more day and trigger tomorrow, but no, he is having me trigger tonight. Is there anyone that triggered and their smaller follicles caught up and mature eggs were retrieved from them? I'm imagining getting a call saying "We retrieved 10 eggs but only 5 were mature..." Anyone have a similar situation that turned out with lots of mature eggs?

I did Estrace priming protocol, and my numbers were pretty similar to yours when I triggered. We ended up with 13 eggs retrieved, 12 were mature, 8 fertilized with ICSI, and we transferred 2 blasts on day 5! I'm 11w3d pregnant with one! So, I'd say you have a great shot!!! Good luck!

Thank you for the response Heather. I actually had looked back at your July forum because I knew you had done an EPP also and I was wondering what your follicle sizes were when you triggered, and how many of yours fertilized. :) I'm just so worried that we won't even get one embryo to transfer because that's what has happened in the past, but of course we're hopeful and praying that will not be the case this time. It's just so scary when all you know is big time failure and disappointment. I'm so happy for you and I hope your pregnancy goes smoothly! How are you feeling so far?

I'll be thinking of you tomorrow! Where will you be updating after retrieval? This thread, I hope! :) :jump: :jump:

I had it today! The nurse talked to the dr. yesterday and he felt very good about the sizes and the E2 (1448) level on Sunday. When I spoke with him before the retrieval he said the nurse that did the u/s on Sunday tends to measure a little bit on the inside of the follicle (which I also noticed) so he "accounts" for that. So basically he knows she isn't the best, lol. Anyway, the best thing is that while we have frozen sperm from my DH's TESE in June, he left a fresh sample also, and the head embryologist came out with a smile saying there were some motile sperm! I don't know how much or how they will endure the wash, but I'm happy that she seemed encouraged. I don't know if you remember, but in March he had to leave a second sample just to get a small amount of motile sperm. Then in our cancelled cycle in July we did an IUI just because I had already stimmed and insurance covered it, and there were a few motile sperm before the wash, but afterward we couldn't find a single one in three slides. Yes, I say we because the nurse let us look too, which was neat. I was extra comfortable and relaxed today going into the retrieval, but I guess it wasn't my first trip to the rodeo so I knew what to expect, and I was happy that my response this time was better than any of my previous cycles. We felt positive on the way home, and hopefully we don't get a call tomorrow like we got last time! Anyway, hopefully they got some nice, healthy, mature eggs and we can get at least one healthy embryo out of this! I want to be a mom!!!

I've been posting recently in the Aug./Sep. forum, so that's where I'll be I guess. It's hard to bounce from group to group after each failure, but it is nice to have the support of others going through this who know what I'm going through and generally how I'm feeling. I saw you posted in the Sept./Oct. and I'm going to be stalking you.

Glad to hear that things seemed to go well today! I'm anxiously awaiting your fertilization results tomorrow! :) How many eggies did they end up getting? I'm thinking tons of good thoughts for you!

My pregnancy is going well - thanks for asking - I'm exhausted right now, but I know it's totally worth it. I have my NT scan on Thursday - part nervous and part excited to get a peek at my little one again!! :)

Heather- Thank you! They won't tell me anything until tomorrow, including how many eggs they got. UGH, waiting... Good luck at your NT scan; I hope everything is perfect! Oh yeah, an extra peek at your baby is surely something to look forward to :)
