IVF Clinical Trial

Postby unaffected » Thu Sep 22, 2011 5:17 am

Hi ladies!

As some of you may know, I have been going through the process of getting accepted into a clinical trial in NYC. Well, yesterday we were officially accepted! I wanted to pass the info along here, in case anyone sees this who has yet to start an IVF cycle.

http://www.ivfclinicaltrial.com/

The study has a few parameters:

• You must be between 18-38 (doesn't matter about DH/partner/etc. They also accept single patients, but I believe you will have to pay for the sperm)
• No previous IVF attempts
• Must have tried for over 12 months to get pregnant.

The clinic is located in NYC. They offer FREE treatment. You have to pay for meds and travel to NYC. They do allow local monitoring to be done once you are accepted, and that will really cut down on trips to the clinic (but you have to pay for local monitoring, whereas monitoring at the clinic would be free).

I have been able, so far, to snag some really great flight deals. $140 round trip, and I've been flying in and out on the same day, in order to save $$$.

There are two arms in the study: conventional IVF (lupron + stims) and mini IVF (BCP + Clomid + a couple days of stims).

I hope this info is helpful to someone! If you decide to look into it, let me know, as I have a couple more helpful links that would be informative as well!

Well... you can be preliminarily accepted based on your answers to the questionairre. Next, you will have to have some IVF pre-screening tests done, and schedule an appointment to go to the clinic in NYC on your CD3. At that appointment, they will go over your medical records, you will do an u/s and b/w, and DH will have a s/a. They will go over all of those results with you on that same day. If everything looks good, you will have to return on CD21 for another u/s and b/w. This is to confirm ovulation. If everything comes back normal that day, you will officially be accepted, and draw your study arm.

So, for me, I filled out the initial paperwork on 8/11/11. I had my CD3 appointment on 9/7/11, and had my CD21 appointment on 9/21/11 (on which day I was officially accepted).

Things could move quicker or slower, based on where you are in your cycle and if you run into any delays in getting the pre-screening results back.

HTH!
