Age: 32
How long TTC: We knew DH likely had CBAVD (i.e. DH born with no tubes to carry sperm) so we had testing done prior to TTC #1.
Diagnosis or any known issues: CBAVD (i.e. DH born with no tubes to carry sperm)
Treatments you tried before IVF: None, we knew CBAVD was likely so we had testing done prior to TTC#1
How many IVF did you do before success: First time! Although TTC #2 took longer.
Are you using donor eggs or sperm: Neither
Protocol (meds taken): Birth control (3 weeks), Lupron, Follistim, PIO, Estriodial Valerate Shots every 3rd day and baby asprin
How many follicles at ER: 16
How many eggs retrieved: 14
How many eggs fertilized: 10, but only 3 made it to 5 days (2 were transferred and 1 was frozen)
How many days between ER and ET: 5 days
How many and quality/rating of embryos/blasts transferred: We transferred 2 "beautiful" blasts but were not given a rating
Symptoms or issues during 2WW: AF Cramps and ovary twinges
What day you got your BFP: 8dp5dt (first time I tested with an FRER)
HPT before blood test: Yes
Number of first beta: 342 at 12dp5dt
Number of babies: One healthy baby boy
Anything else you would have wanted to know before you started this process?: The anxiety of the PIO shots is WAY worse than the shots themselves. I had a needle phobia prior to starting IVF and couldn't contemplate having PIO shots daily and 2 every 3 days. However, if you just do it and let the anxiety go, the shots are really not that bad. I won't say they are pleasant, but you get used to them. Good luck!
Me (34)- MTHFR / DH (34)- CBAVD

Age: 33
How long TTC: 1.5 years
Diagnosis or any known issues: mild hypothyroidism, male factor: morphology
Treatments you tried before IVF: 3 medicated IUI's
How many IVF did you do before success: 1 time, however it was a FET because of severe OHSS
Are you using donor eggs or sperm: neither
Protocol (meds taken): gonal-F and menopur
How many follicles at ER: 40
How many eggs retrieved: 38
How many eggs fertilized: 25 (1/2 with ISCI, 1/2 on their own)
How many days between ER and ET: We had to wait a month after our ER because I had severe OHSS. We chose to freeze 9 embryos at 5days post ER
How many and quality/rating of embryos/blasts transferred: 2 embryos transferred. I don't remember their rating
Symptoms or issues during 2WW: Alot of cramping and night sweats.
What day you got your BFP: I was scared to take a test at home! So I waited 3 days before my blood test. I think that was 10 days post transfer
HPT before blood test: Yes
Number of first beta: 1st: 164, 2nd:384 3rd: 756
Number of babies: 2
Anything else you would have wanted to know before you started this process?: IVF is a rollercoaster ride. There are so many ups but also some negatives you have to deal with. My biggest negative was getting severe OHSS. I was down and out for about 10 days. I had an abdominal drain inserted to drain the 10+ pounds of fluid. At first, I was really upset that we couldn't do a fresh transfer. But after dealing with OHSS, I'm so glad we waited.
Another piece of advise: Know and understand your insurance coverage! Also, make sure you know what is covered in your IVF plan (bloodwork, ultrasounds, procedures, ect)

Thanks to all the ladies that shared their IVF story here. I am not quiet there yet as my DH has to overcome the emotional hurdle of semen analysis. Due to my age and my left tube blockage IUI is not an option. I have already selected my specialist however the most important part I have taken from this blog is to continue my reasearch. So I appreciate all the "heads up" given to those of us that have yet to experience their own BFP journey or will have to take this fertility route.

And congrats to each and every one of you on your BFPs - even if belated!!
All our babies have become angels now!!

Hi everyone! I'll post for old times sake. I was a big poster years ago and just popped in here to check on Lisa B :)

Age: I am 28 now. I was 24 with my first IVF, 26 with my second (frozen --> MC), 27 with my 3rd.
How long TTC: I was TTC for 6 months before we started the IVF process
Diagnosis or any known issues: Severe MFI
Treatments you tried before IVF: None
How many IVF did you do before success: Success first and third times (two girls!!)
Are you using donor eggs or sperm: Nope
Protocol (meds taken): Long lupron protocol both times (lupron, menopur, follistim)
How many follicles at ER: yikes I don't remember... I hope it says in my old signiture!
How many eggs retrieved: My most recent one has 11 I think
How many eggs fertilized: 9 I think
How many days between ER and ET: 5
How many and quality/rating of embryos/blasts transferred: I don't remember (I'm terrible sorry!) but I had 8 excellent ones, 2 were placed and 6 frozen from my most recent cycle.
Symptoms or issues during 2WW: I had implantation bleeding with my oldest daughter. No symptoms with my baby.
What day you got your BFP: I think 5 days post transfer with my most recent one.
HPT before blood test: yes!!!
Number of first beta: I hope it says it my siggy!
Number of babies: 1 each time!
Anything else you would have wanted to know before you started this process?: It is a very long and hard process. Find someone that you can talk to along the way or else you will go insane!!
Me- 27- Tests show everything works perfectly!
DH- 36- SA results = 80 million, 30% motility (3% forward progressive), <1% strict morphology- Diagnosis= severe male factor infertility

IVF #1, 11/09- BFP! Its a girl! Born 8/18/09

Tried naturally for 1.5 years after my DD was born... guess things still don't work right!

Age: early 30s
How long TTC: 2 years
Diagnosis or any known issues: MFI, blocked tube and thyroid autoimmunity
Treatments you tried before IVF: Clomid, super-ovulation IUI
How many IVF did you do before success: 2 FETs and 1 fresh
Are you using donor eggs or sperm: No
Protocol (meds taken): short protocol, aspirin, prednisolone, thyroxine, IVIG
How many follicles at ER: many... about 30?
How many eggs retrieved: 20+ (can't remember exact)
How many eggs fertilized: 14
How many days between ER and ET: 3
How many and quality/rating of embryos/blasts transferred: Transferred 2x day-3 embryos (told embryos not good enough to go to blasts)
Symptoms or issues during 2WW: bloatedness from slight OHSS, started 2 days before beta
What day you got your BFP: 13 days after ET
HPT before blood test: no, wasn't too hopeful
Number of first beta: 800+
Number of babies: thought it was twins from the beta number , but only one :)
Anything else you would have wanted to know before you started this process? IVF is very much trial and error, and what works for others might not work for you. Like the other posters said, support is very important during this stressful time. The first trimester was actually more scary than the 2ww as I had unexplained bleeding episodes - I was told that's common for IVF pregnancies. Be prepared for a roller-coaster ride.
Male factor, tubal and Immune issues
Clomid & IUI cycles: BFN
4/12 IVF#1: freeze all due to OHSS
5/12 FET #1 with blasts: BFN
6/12 Polyps removed
7/12 FET #2 with blasts: chemical
10/12 IVF #2 with day 3 embies & immunes: BFP
It's a boy - EDD: 6/13

Treatments you tried before IVF: 5x clomid 1 with iui
How many IVF did you do before success: 1 ivf, 1 fet, 1 ivf+pgd
Are you using donor eggs or sperm: no
Protocol (meds taken): long lupron, follistim, low dose hcg for lh, baby aspirin, ganirelix, lupron trigger, coq10, fish oil
How many follicles at ER: 33

How many eggs fertilized: 10 with icsi

HPT before blood test: yes a million...poas-aholic
Number of first beta: 209 on 9dp5dt
Number of babies: 1
Anything else you would have wanted to know before you started this process? Look up SART ratings. Sometimes you need to change RE's. After 3 failed cycles and a killer of a diagnosis with the translocation, we said to hell with it, and went to the best in the state. Although 3 hours away round trip, he got me pregnant. Don't stay with a clinic because its comfortable or geographically close. Its about who's going to do the best job, period! Also, ask questions....if you disagree with something, speak up!
Me:35 (Genna) DH:41
Me: thin PCOS, homo MTHFR, balanced translocation 5;10 DH: normal
- No kids/TTC 2.5 years
- 5 losses: clomid/IVF/IVF+PGD, 1 natural loss November 2012

I think I knew what I was getting into, but there is no way to prepare yourself for the rollercoaster of emotions you will go through. Have faith that things will work out in the end. Infertility and subsequently IVF is by far the hardest thing I've ever gone through, it's hard to not give up and curl into a ball some days but you will get through it.

Age: 29
How long TTC: 2.5 years
Diagnosis or any known issues: Unexplained Secondary Infertility
Treatments you tried before IVF: 8 failed cycles; 4 clomid, 3 gonal-f (2 with iui) and one cancelled ivf
How many IVF did you do before success: 1
Are you using donor eggs or sperm: neither
Protocol (meds taken): gonal-f, orgalutran, luveris, suprefact, pio
How many follicles at ER: 10
How many eggs retrieved: 7
How many eggs fertilized: 6
How many days between ER and ET: 5 day transfer

HPT before blood test: couldn't, too chicken
Number of first beta: 622
Number of babies: 2 - lost one at 6w4d - other baby is perfect
Anything else you would have wanted to know before you started this: it's so overwhelming, everything you feel at once. Knowing the ivf may be your best (only chance) and it still may not work. It took everything I had, but a positive outlook, I do believe, helped me land in the place that I am; knowing that everything was out of my control so I stayed as calm as I could and let happen why was meant to happen.

Age: 34
How long TTC: 2 years
Diagnosis or any known issues: Unexplained infertility, don't ovulate regularly
Treatments you tried before IVF: Clomid for 3 cycles, then transfer to fertility specialist. HSG test performed, all clear. 1 IUI with Clomid. 1 IUI with Injectables. Moved to IVF after the 2 failed IUIs because of cost and success rate - have no insurance coverage for infertility, so the IUI with injectables was very expensive and we figured we would move to IVF because of the higher success rate. Sonohysterogram. Endometrium "scratch" biopsy the cycle before FET (frozen embryo transfer).
How many IVF did you do before success: 1 fresh cycle (negative). 1 FET that worked.
Are you using donor eggs or sperm: No.
Protocol (meds taken): For Fresh cycle, Lupron, Gonal F, Menopur, Medrol, Progesterone in Oil. For FET , estradiol 2MG tablets 3 times per day, 2 vivelle estrogen patches every other day, zithromoycin, medrol, progesterone in oil. Continue all estrogen and progesterone support for first 12 weeks.
How many follicles at ER: 25 measurable follicles
How many eggs retrieved: 20 eggs retrieved, 18 mature and 2 immature
How many eggs fertilized: Of the 18 mature, 13 fertilized (6 via ICSC and 7 via conventional fertilization). In fresh cycle, transferred 1 embryo and then we were able to freeze 7 five-day embryos
How many days between ER and ET: 5 days
How many and quality/rating of embryos/blasts transferred: 1 5-day "perfect" and starting to hatch embryo transfered for Fresh cycle (negative). 1 5-day "perfect" and fully hatching embryo embryo transfered for FET cycle (positive).
Symptoms or issues during 2WW: No symptoms at all during FET. During the Fresh cycle, I was a little overstimulated and was VERY bloated and uncomfortable for a good 5 or 6 days after the egg transfer.
What day you got your BFP: Faint positive on home pregnancy test at 7 days past 5 day transfer. I had NEVER seen a positive before - it was incredible.
HPT before blood test: Yes, several!
Number of first beta: 12 days past 5 day transfer hCG of 738. Second beta at 18 days past 5 day transfer of 7,692 - good rise.
Number of babies: 1 (only transferred 1 embryo)
Anything else you would have wanted to know before you started this process?:
This is a very difficult process as I am sure all of you know. It is expensive too! Try not to get too discouraged. After our failed fresh IVF cycle, we had to cancel one FET cycle because of a uterine cyst that started to grow and the lining wasn't great. We did an endometrium "scratch" biopsy the following month and then scheduled our FET for the next month. Again, I had a terrible cycle and started to accumulate fluid in the uterus and the lining did not look good. The lining was only measuring between 6 and 8mm and was not "trilaminar" or triple stripe which they look for. I decided to go for it with 1 embryo so I could take advantage of the scratch biopsy the cycle before and because I was lucky enough to have 7 frozen embryos. Sure enough, it worked! Even with terrible lining. The doctor and I believe that the scratch biopsy significantly improved my chances and I highly recommend this procedure to anyone who has had a failed cycle and poor lining response.

Are you using donor eggs or sperm: no
Protocol (meds taken): long GnRH agonist protocol (Lupron, Follistim, Menopur, hCG trigger, methylprednisolone prior to transfer, progesterone in oil followed by Crinone)
How many follicles at ER: unknown
How many eggs retrieved: 29 total, 26 mature
How many eggs fertilized: 20

Anything else you would have wanted to know before you started this process?: The value of a good counselor cannot be underestimated; this IVF process made me face real fears and re-think parts of my identity, which is pretty heavy stuff. I also wish I had known ahead of time how supportive my friends would be because I would have reached out to them sooner. Finally, despite my pessimism after so many months of failure, I would have liked to know that it would really work for us and that in the end I'd look at my daughter and feel it was all worth it!
Me: 36, low progesterone/ovulatory dysfunction
DH: 41, healthy
19 months TTC #1

Age: 23
How long TTC: 1 year
Diagnosis or any known issues: me -no right ovary/tube. super irregular cycles. DH - low sperm concentration and morphology
Treatments you tried before IVF: 3 months clomid, one clomid/iui
How many IVF did you do before success: first one took!
Are you using donor eggs or sperm: no
Protocol (meds taken): birth control for 2 weeks, then bravelle and menopur, ganirelex, hcg trigger, pio shots
How many follicles at ER: 18
How many eggs retrieved: 11
How many eggs fertilized: 8
How many days between ER and ET: 5
How many and quality/rating of embryos/blasts transferred: 2 excellent blasts. they graded them on a good/fair/poor scale and ours were exceeding "good"
Symptoms or issues during 2WW: intense cramps at night, exhaustion
What day you got your BFP: 11dp5dt - we waited for the beta
HPT before blood test: no
Number of first beta: 476
Number of babies: don't know yet!
Anything else you would have wanted to know before you started this process?: i really made myself more anxious/nervous than i actually should have been. the worst part was the egg retrieval but that was because i also had a laporotomy at the same time so the recovery was rough. we took a mini staycation the week before our beta and it was the best idea. got our minds somewhat off of it (a good book helps too!)
