1st IVF Cycle August/September, anyone else?

Postby TTCBaby#1 » Fri Aug 15, 2014 5:47 am

Hey there! I am starting my first IVF cycle this month. I have one week left of bcp and hoping to start the injections afterwards. After several set backs, I am excited to finally be starting with the IVF process but also nervous. It would be great to hear about anyone else's experience or to hear from someone who is on this cycle as well.

I am doing my first IVF also but we are using donor eggs as I have severe diminished ovarian reserve but we are so excited to be blessed to have this opportunity! I just got my schedule yesterday, here is my tentative schedule.
Wishing you the best of luck!!

My Schedule:

I am to stop BCP in Aug 24, same day start up in baby aspirin every night. AF should start up within a few days. Then on Aug 28 go in for my baseline blood and ultrasound.
Two or three days later then I will start estrogen patches

Then on Sept 11 I will have my first monitoring ultrasound to check my lining and bloodwork to check my hormone levels. Now if those results are good, then right on to the next step if lining is not quite there yet then doc will do some adjustment of the estrogen and then more ultrasounds and bloodtest will be needed.

So if Sept 11 check up turns out well then that evening I will do HCG trigger shot and Progesterone shot and then egg thaw and fertilization of my 5 eggs will be on Sept 12th. Also on Sept 12th I will start Medrol and Doxycycline for 5 days. Sept 13th I will know how many survived thaw and were fertilized.

Then on Sept 15th we will do a 3 day embryo transfer ( God Willing we will have some to transfer) and then we wait 11 days for blood tests!

Wooooo that's a lot but I am sooo ready to start this journey! Praying that we have a least one great 3 day 8 cell embie to transfer any extra would just be a nice surprise.

Tammy, it looks like you'll be a couple of weeks in front of me. I should get my schedule on Wednesday when I go in for my appointment. I started BCPs last night and have 3 snowbabies in the freezer. We'll transfer 2 probably and pray that one takes. Good luck to all of us!!

Hi Ladies! So glad that all of you responded. Even though it sounds like some of our cycles are going to be a bit different the ET should be around the same time. It is great to have other people to talk to throughout the cycle as I am not entirely sure what to expect. Even though I've read everything possible on IVF, I don't think that I will be fully prepared when actually going through it. I am finding that it is extremely difficult to be in the moment and constantly looking forward to moving onto the next step. Is anyone with me in wishing that summer was over so that it means we are in September and that much closer?!?! If any of you have any good ideas on ways to pass the time or fun activities to plan during this cycle , please share! Anything to stop me from obsessing :D

Hi ladies,it's lovely to 'meet' you all.
I'm on my first IVF too. I've had two tubal pregnancies in the past and unfortunately lost my left tube in '06 and right tube in '08.
I'm excited for the process. I'm currently on BCPs and I go in for my suppression check on the 21st. My meds are due to arrive on Tuesday.
We are going to do PGS on our embies (if we get any!) and do a frozen transfer in November if we have any normal ones.

How many antral follicles did you have on CD1? I had 19 so I'm really curious to see how many we'll see at the suppression check, it should be the same right?

Hi Friends!

I have tried replying to this string before but it doesn't seem to be going through. Here goes again-
I would love to join you all. We are only a little off in our cycles.
TTC#1- the waiting is DEFINITELY the hardest part for me. Once you get your calendar you will feel better. I try to keep myself busy by still going out to see friends and attend social functions as much as possible to keep my mind off the obsessing :) I am also working thru this whole thing so that helps make the time pass as well.
Mur- 19 follies is great! I had my 5 day after stims ultrasound last Friday and I had 7 follies. I totally thought I would have more since I felt so much action in my ovaries and feel pretty bloated. I will have another ultrasound tomorrow and hopefully the numbers are good.

Good luck to all of us and hoping we all get BFPs this cycle!!

Mur - They didn't do an ultrasound for me on CD1 (not sure why), so I am not sure what my follie count was. How did your suppression check go today? Fingers crossed that all goes well!

Bee22630 - Sounds like you are a bit ahead of us since you are already on the stims? How are things progressing?

Mur, 19 follices is a good resting count! I had 5 - total - so that is great! My re says they like to see 10-14 on CD1-3 so that's amazing!
Bee- I hope more follies popped up for you!

Hi to everyone!!

Well, I take my last BCP on Sunday and I start low dose aspirin that night then go for baseline bloodwork and u/s on 08/28, I should start my estrogen shortly after that. Meds are all ordered! Nervous about the shots but gotta do them so no sense getting worked up over it! Biggest worry is that the 5 frozen eggs survive thaw and fertilize, the shots are small bean in comparison.

Good luck to everybody!

Hi ladies,

They counted 9 follies but only 7 are considered "good". I am getting pretty tender and sore in my ovaries so I can't wait for the retrieval. It is now scheduled for Sunday.
Tammy- don't worry the shots will be a lot easier than you thing :) I was totally freaked out by them before I started. You got this!!

Hi ladies,

Bee, that's great news about your 7 follies, imagine if they all fertilize, that's a lot of embies.

Thanks for the vote of confidence Tammy, good luck with your transfer! All things going well for me, we should transfer early Nov due to the PGS. Were the shots expensive? What meds are used?

TTCBaby, Jenn and Plattis, what date do ye start your stims? I'm starting mine on Sunday morning the 26th. I've already cleared out a shelf in my kitchen cabinet for my meds, they look very daunting! My hubby can't wait to "stick it to me" lol.

AFM: My suppression check went well, the Dr saw 18 follies, no cysts and he's happy to proceed.
I swear that I've gained around 6lbs already on the BCPs, my clothes are so tight. I met a friend for lunch today and I was really self conscious. I dread to think of the bloat once I start stims (my @ss is looking pretty bloated too  ) Has anyone else had much weight gain?
I'm still drinking my latte in the mornings as well, it's just so hard to cut the caffeine, is that really bad?

Oh, one question. Does anyone know if it's ok to continue taking the baby aspirin during stims?

Mur,

I continue to drink 1 8oz cup of coffee in the morning. I dilute it with water and creamer. My Dr has not said anything to me at all about cutting coffee or caffeine out. However my other RE with my 3 failed IUIs had me cut it out completely.
Also the bloat is no joke! I can't fit into my pants anymore. Only skirts/dresses. But I didn't start to feel really sore/heavy until the 2nd week of stims. My hubby is the one sticking it to me too! I just can't bring myself to do it. I was told no pain medication except for Tylenol.

Mur - my meds for my transfer so far has only cost $144, we used Freedom Fertility Pharmacy, that is for the hcg trigger, progesterone shots and prog suppository, needles, sharps container, ect. My estrogen patches, medrol, and doxycycline got sent to my regular mail order pharmacy, still waiting on that bill. Not sure about the baby aspirin and stims but for my transfer I am to stay on mine until told otherwise!

Oh and I was wondering if any of you had your Vitamin D checked, my was WAY low at 24.8 so Dr put me on a 50,000 IU supplement, chewable wafer once a week for 4 weeks and 5,000 iu daily and a month later I am now at 44.6, perfect level for IVF! Vitamin D deficiency has been know to cause implantation problems and early miscarriage. I was so happy to see my levels up, I had been trying since April to get them up and they wouldn't budge out of that 24 level but the Replesta wafers did the trick!

Hi Tammy, thanks for that, I have most of those with my last prescription. I think that they wrote my script as if I were to do a fresh transfer in the event that we only have 1 or 2 embies.

I also used Freedom Fertility, I wasted no time in mailing of my rebate for the Gonal F and the Cetrotide . Every little helps!

That's interesting about the vitamin D, don't you get vit D from sunshine as well? I'm taking prenatal multi-vit gummies so fingers crossed they are giving me all the vits I need.

Mind if i join you ladies? This is not my first IVF cycle, but my first FET cycle.... I'm pretty far along as my transfer is this monday 8/25, but am so late jumping into the July/August board that i feel lost and way behind. I had my first IVF cycle back in March which ended in a chemical pregnancy. We have 3 embies frozen and plan to transfer 2 this cycle. So far meds have been ok. Lupron gives me bad insomnia, but stopped the lupron on Wednesday so yay for that. Day 2 of my PIO and already my booty is sore. My fresh cycle i only took 1 mL of the PIO and never had any soreness. With the FET my PIO has been increased to 2 mL and has definatly increased the soreness level. The injection itself doesn't hurt as i numb the area, but later on i sure can feel it. Can't wait to cheer you ladies on as you each get your BFP!!!!
