IVF in Fall/Winter not as successful?

Postby sophhie » Thu Sep 18, 2014 10:15 am

Good afternoon ladies,

We have unexplained infertility, TTC for 38 months and thought of undergoing an IVF next March, but we have just learned that our insurance may change, so we are thinking of having it done this Fall/Winter. I was reading that the success rates are better in Spring and Summer. Does it seem right or we should we just do it in a couple of months? I am desperate to have a baby and cannot wait any longer. Enough of the suffering!

Thank you.

Sophhie,
I've been TTC for 4 years & have been undergoing fertility treatments (IUI & IVF) for almost 2 years & I have never heard of the whole fall/winter, spring/summer thing!
If you are comfortable with moving forward with IVF I would just go for it! As I have learned, things can take way longer than you think!
Best of luck to you!

Hi StephW,

I am so sorry to hear about your journey:((( It is very hard. Thank you so much for your words of encouragement. I should probably stop over thinking all the details or I'll dry myself crazy. We have just talked about it and decided to set up a consultation with our ER (after one year) for the next week! I am so excited and hopeful once again. I hope you will conceive soon. All the best!

Think about all the summer babies and all the people that get pregnant naturally in the winter. I have also never heard that it makes any difference. All the labs are indoors. Just do it.
Me: 28, unexplained infertility
Husband: 30, superstar

3/2013 - Surprise "Pregnancy of unknown origin," should've been 6 wks+ no sac found
4/2013 - 9/13 - Natural attempts, BFN
10/13 & 11/13 - Clomid only BFN
1/14 - Clomid & IUI BFN
3/6/14 - Laparoscopy (found adhesions on Lt tube, Dr cleaned/left it)
5/10/14 - Day 1 of stims
5/22/14 - ER with 40 EGGS (22 mature & fertilized)
5/27/14 - ET with 1 day 5AA blast....8 in the freezer
6/2- HPT BFP....6/5 Beta1 55.2 - 6/7 Beta2 93.8 - 6/10 Beta3 308.7 - 6/13 Beta 903 - 6/18 U/S No yolk sac HCG to 0 within 2 weeks
7/16/14 - Laparoscopy to remove left tube, very damaged
8/14 - FET cycle, xfer 1 hatched blast....BFN
Taking a break from IVF to relax & try on our own for a bit

Not in my case. I did 4 IVF transfers (2 fresh and 2 frozen) with 2 live pregnancies and 2 miscarriages. My 2 boys were transferred during the winter months (December & early February) and my 2 miscarriages during the Spring/Summer. Of note, the reason for my 2 miscarriages were biological (i.e., blood clots and chromosomal issues). And I have been on these boards since 2010 and have never seen a correlation based on the time of year. I say go for it and Good Luck!!
Me (34)- MTHFR / DH (34)- CBAVD
IVF #1 (2/2010)- Transferred 2 5 day blasts- DS1 born Nov 2010!!!
IVF #2 (2/2012)- Transferred 2 5 day blasts, BFP but m/c at 6w4d due to SCH.
FET #1 (7/2012)- Transferred 2 5 day blasts, BFP but m/c of baby boy at 7 wks due to Trisomy 16.
FET #2-(12/14/12)- Transferred our LAST 2 5 day blasts
Beta No. 1-(12dp5dt)- 497/ Beta No. 2- (14dp5dt)- 1297
U/S No. 1- Saw 1 gestational sac & yolk sac
U/S Nos. 2 - 6- Baby measuring right on time or ahead at 6w4d, 7w4d, 8w4d, 9w4d & 10w4d with a strong heartbeat!!
U/S No. 7- Graduated from RE at 11w4d on Valentines Day and baby was measuring 12w1d!
NT Scan/MaterniT21 Test- All clear!! It's a boy!
Anatomy Scan- All looks good!
DS2 Born August 2013!!!

OUR IVF/FET JOURNEY IS NOW COMPLETE!!

My older daughter was a winter IVF, as was my nephew. I don't think the season matters one iota.
Me- 27- Tests show everything works perfectly!
DH- 36- SA results = 80 million, 30% motility (3% forward progressive), <1% strict morphology- Diagnosis= severe male factor infertility

IVF #1, 11/09- BFP! Its a girl! Born 8/18/09

Tried naturally for 1.5 years after my DD was born... guess things still don't work right!

FET #1, 01/11- BFP! at 6w

IVF #2- 5/11- 11 eggs retrieved, 9 fert! Hoping for a day 5 transfer.... grow babies grow!!
5/31/11- BPF!! on FRER!
Baby girl #2 due 2/10/12 :)

My successful cycle was a November one. Not scientific, but there's a little anecdotal evidence for you. I never heard that the season makes any difference. I definitely wouldn't put it off for 6 months just for that!
Me: 36, low progesterone/ovulatory dysfunction
DH: 41, healthy
19 months TTC #1
IVF Oct/Nov 2012, BFP! DD born at 41 weeks 1 day
13 months TTC #2, 1 year break, then 2 more months TTC
FET Jan 2015, BFN
Freeze-all IVF May 2015, 2 snowbabies
FET July 2015, BFP but m/c at 5w1d
FET Sept 2015, BFN
IVF with fresh tfr Sept 2016, BFP, DS born at 41 weeks
