Balanced translocation

Postby Meg* » Wed Apr 01, 2015 3:45 am

Hi there,
Anyone have balanced translocation and going through ivf? What are your thoughts on genetic testing of embryo. My DH has it, been told its fairly innocuous. I have PCOS which is why we are trying IVF so not sure why FS is recommending genetic testing?
Thanks, it's all pretty confusing...

Hi Meg

I don't have experience with this but because of the translocation, automatically half your embies will be chromosomally abnormal. In the long run, it won't make a lot of difference unless you are over the age of 35. The rationale for doing genetic testing would be time saving and potentially money-saving as it may take more transfers to get a take home baby. For testing, make sure your lab is very experienced with biopsying for PGS -- you want a technically competent lab to be doing this procedure. I got burned once and ended up getting 3 out of 4 no results!

Good luck!

Thanks for your response! Decided not to go with PGD as it is thought that the BT my partner has causes problems during early fertilisation so had a day 5 transfer. Fingers crossed.
