Should I be worried(follicle count/size)?

Postby chickbea » Mon May 04, 2015 12:58 pm

Hi ladies – Any feedback would be so appreciated…
So here's the thing – currently in 1st IVF cycle. We are planning a 2 embryo 5 day transfer if there's more than 10 embryos by day 3, if <10 then a day 3 transfer. Went in for follicle count today and they told me I would most likely be triggering tomorrow for a Thurs retrieval. I am very concerned about my follicle count being that most of them are less than 10 mm… Here are my stats
2- 20mm
1- 19mm
1- 18mm
2- 15mm
15- <10mm
So it seems like I will only have possibly six mature follicles on retrieval. This concerns me greatly as not every egg is mature & not every mature egg fertilizes and so on.. Should I be worried about these stats? I am freaking out. I know it only takes 1, but I was hoping to have some to freeze. Is it possible to have more than 1 egg per follicle?
Also my estrogen was at 2910. So could this mean I have more mature eggs than the 6 most likely to mature?
Thanks ladies!

Hi Chickbea:

Yes it is possible to have more than one egg per follicle. It does look like you will have up to six eggs or maybe more. Follicles less than 10 mm at trigger are unlikely to catch up but anything is possible. Remember that it is quality over quantity and that some people get 20 eggs but only six fertilize anyway. People have gotten 40 eggs with five blasts in the end. Others have six eggs and 4 good quality blasts in the end. Good luck!

Thanks Adventurer! I keep trying to remember that it only takes one and that it's quality over quantity. Also my estrogen is pretty decent at 2910, so I'm hoping that's a good sign.
Also, congrats on your BFP!

Thanks! :)

Oh and I wanted to mention that you should trigger with 10,000 HCG or 500 of ovidrel (ie. 2 syringes of ovidrel). Anything less will decrease your number of mature eggs and possibly ability to fertilize. I've seen this happen to a lot of people.

Thank you so much for telling this! I will definitely bring this up to my clinic tomorrow. I know he ordered Lupron in case he wanted me to trigger with it, but they said today I'd probably just be using my Ovidrel, of which I only have one. So I will be brining this up & pushing for it.
Thanks Again!

So excited! We ended up getting 12 eggs today at retrieval! They told me my estrogen was at 4010 the day of trigger so I was praying that meant we had a few more hiding out in there! Tomorrow will find out how many were mature and how many fertilized.

Sorry it's been a few days....Just wanted to update the fert report/embryo count.... of our 12 eggs nine more mature and eight fertilized! They all need it to day 3, when we transferred 2 of our 3- 8 cell grade A- embies! The other ones they let culture until Day five & we ended up being able to freeze 2 AA blasts (one hatching). So now I'm in the 2ww, but considering myself PUPO!
