IVF with low follicle # - so worried!

Postby babydreams2 » Sat May 30, 2015 7:01 pm

Hello all,

I had my first round of IVF in late Feb/early March and did the retrieval in March. I only had 4 follicles to begin with...my doc retreived 4 eggs, with 3 mature, of which 2 fertilized and were frozen on day 3. Because I have so few follicles (I'm almost 40), my doc recommended a second round of IVF to gather more eggs before we do PGS and possible transfer. The first round of IVF I was a nervous wreck and the shots were miserable because I had a terrible cold. I just finished round 2 of IVF shots last night, with my trigger shot tomorrow....and it was a breeze this time- minimal discomfort and easy peasy, phew! So this round, once again, I only had 4 follicles to start , but they aren't grouped in size well like last time. So I don't know if I'll even get 2 embryos to freeze this time like last time. And THEN, after thawing all of them, growing to day 5 blastocyste and PGS....will there even be an egg to transfer??!! It's been $36k so far and all this heartache and what if it doesn't even work??!!

Trying to stay positive, but I haven't really seen posts from other people with my low follicle number. Anyone else out there like me?

Hi babydreams, i understand what you are going through. I am 41 and yes, the number of eggs/follicles we have is usually less than younger women. At this point, all you can do is relax and have faith. We have seen women on our forum get pregnant with only a few eggs retrieved and then others with many eggs not get pregnant. Have faith!!! Good luck on your retrieval this week!

Thanks for the encouragement sunshine! :)

Just had my retrieval this morning and they only retrieved 3 of the 4 eggs but hopefully they'll all be mature! Fingers crossed!

Hi! I too have low egg reserve. I'm 34 and my AMH was like .7. Looks like I only have 6 follicles and I should trigger shot on Monday, with hopes of retrieval Wed. I'm trying not to think of the numbers, and just hope the quality is good. In a way it's good, as DH and I didn't want to be faced with what to do with extra, unused embryos down the road. That being said, I hope for at least one or two good embies.

Best of luck to you. Try not to get down on the numbers. Quality first! HUGS
Me - 34 Low ovarian reserve
DH - 34 Low count (4 million) low motility
1 bio-11 yo,conceived naturally
1 adopted DS-6 yo
TTC since 2005

10/27/15 - 6 good follicles so far
ER 10/29
7 eggs retrieved!
6 eggs fertilized
3 embryos made it to day 5 blasts
ET-11/3/15 transferred two embies, 1 perfect, 1 fair
3rd embie didn't make it to freeze :(

Quality over quantity! I had 24 follicles and great eggs, and guess what. None of them took. You just never know!! Have faith that God will take care of this all!!! Good luck to you!
