pre-implantation genetic testing

Postby pandagrl » Mon Jun 20, 2016 7:17 pm

Hello ladies, I'm thinking of moving on to IVF after 4 failed IUI cycles. Has anyone here done PGS or PGD testing and if so what were your experiences? Also, does anyone know if ICSI is necessary when doing genetic testing on embryos?

Thanks in advance for any info you can share! :)
Me 41, SO 46

IUI #1 - 8/2015 - BFP but miscarried
4 more IUI's in 2016, all BFN

IVF - ER 3/3/2017 - canceled cycle (partner couldn't produce sperm - almost killed him)
9 eggs frozen
5/2/2017 - 6 eggs made the thaw and all fertilized
5/7/2017 - 1 embryo transferred - BFN
2 frosties remaining

7/22/2017 - natural BFP - chemical

I did it and out of 8 embryos only 2 were normal. Transferring 1 normal next week. ICSI is standard at my clinic so we had no choice in that matter. Hope that helps. I have found it great so far and helped me relax knowing I have some normals and we will be transferring a normal and minimizes our risk of miscarriage after 4 misc + one ectopic. No guarantee that the embryo will take but it sure gives us a better chance and psychological ly it makes me feel satisfied that we have done everything possible to make this work and que sera sera....

Thank you so much for the response! I like the idea of doing genetic testing on the embryos but I'm not so hot on ICSI but my understanding is that the genetic test is more accurate when done with ICSI. Good luck and all the best for a successful transfer and sticky embryo! :sticky: :)

I did IVF with PGD/CCS and ICSI...and I'm so glad we did it all! Of our 16 retrieved, 10 successfully fertilized via ICSI, then 6 of those made it to day 5 for testing. Only 2 of our 6 came back chromosomally normal, which the doc says are pretty typical results. When I talked to the embryologist, he even said that some of the AA embryos (highest graded by the eye & microscope) ended up being abnormal, scary... Not that PGD guarantees anything, but I do believe it only ups the odds. It's such a numbers game from retrieval forward! All you can do is make the best decision based on your comfort level and the info you have available at the time. Good luck to you!

I'm reading your signature and can see you lost that embryo, I'm very sorry :( Must be so frustrating esp after the genetic testing. I hope you're going to transfer the 2nd one and wish you tons of luck! Thanks for sharing your experience with PGD testing.

Thanks, Panda. Yeah, losing that one was a really tough time. Now I'm paranoid about SCHs with the next transfer, but not much to do about that.
If I've learned one thing throughout this messy process, it's that as much as we plan, research, prepare, (even pay), etc., ultimately there's some element of nature taking it's course and things being out of our control. Such is life *sigh* GL!

Re: pre-implantation genetic testing

Postby ValerieLin » Fri Nov 11, 2016 10:21 am

Hi Everyone,

I have gone through 2 IVF cycles. The first one I only had 2 embryos and neither of them made it to blastocyst. Cycle #2 - I had ER on 11/5. They retrieved 9 eggs, 5 were mature & 4 fertilized. Of those 4 only 2 made it to blastocyst and only 1 of those was good enough for PGD testing.

Has anyone had the PGD test come back normal for only 1 embryo?

Thanks!
Valerie

Hi valerie I know someone who had 3 for testing and 1 came back normal and transferred and all going well approaching 30wks. My own case I had 5 for testing by day 5 and only 2 normal. Transferred 1 normal and all going well thankfully. We did ngs testing and a fet.

Hi Valerie,
I recall my RE saying in our group IFV class from the very start that couples should expect 1-3 normal embryos after testing. I balked at that at first, thinking that surely there would be more. Sure enough, I ended up with 6 to test, 2 of which were normal. There's always a chance. Did you receive your results back yet? Hoping you got good news!
