How many IUIs should I do?

Most of you know my issues. I don`t ovulate properly if at all off meds. Clomid worked but thinned my lining and I`ve done two rounds of injectables, one with IUI. We have no male issues. I`ve never had my tubes checked, though I got pregnant once, but m/c at 5w2d (3rd round of clomid) so I think the doc is assuming at least one is open for now).
Anyway, how many IUIs do you think I should aim for before considering IVF. Bear in mind IUIs are REALLY cheap here. About 30 dollars a pop.

I think you should consider doing a few cycles with IUI--but my question is how long will the doctors let you be on injectables??

I think at least 6 months.

my dtr had said to give it 3 to 5 cycles before moving onto IVF. with iuis being so inexpensive and your dtr clearing you to be on injectables up to 6 months, i would say stick with it until your dtr suggests you should stop. it is excellent that the procedure is so inexpensive where you live!

I know, I think I am especially lucky because it`s a teaching hospital. Well that`s the only thing I can think of anyway. The doc did say they do it cheaper than other places....

With IUIs being so cheap, I would do them many times before considering IVF. But I would also do an HSG to see if you tubes are in good shape. The HSG also gives you a fertility boost for a few months. At this point, if Oing is your problem, IUI should work if the meds make you O. IVF wouldn't really be better unless you have tubal issues too. Many people assume that IVF is the ultimate solution and it does work for many. But take it from an IVF failure that it is an tragic disappointment when it doesn't. If I would have had the surgery to repair my one remaining tube first, I could have afforded to try many rounds of IUI. But instead I jumped directly to IVF and assumed that it would work. I already had one child so I knew I could carry a baby. My tubes were the problem and IVF bypassed them so why wouldn't it work? Well it didn't. Now I'm back TTCing again at my advanced maternal age. I could have a preschooler by now if I would have skipped IVF.

WishN4 - Thanks for your insight. Sorry about your failed IVF though. I am scared to jump on to IVF because of that very possibility. I think I will ask about the HSG like you suggest and then keep at the IUI and injects as long as the docs let me. Then I might take a med-break and see what happens naturally for a while before considering going on to IVF.

YEah--I say continue with the IUIs on the injectables. If still no bfp--if you do natural have you tried vitex? It helped me ovulate sooner the couple of months I was on it while I was waiting to start clomid and if I have other waiting cycles I will use it again.

For what it's worth, I did 12 IUI's, one with injectables-Follistim...that was my last one and got my sticky BFP...he's almost 5 mths old now.

Good luck!

my RE will only do 4 rounds of IUI before he moves me to the next step. According to him, if you are not pregnant after 4 medicated (Clomid, injectables etc) and monitored cycles, then statistically the chances of getting pregnant using IUI are not very good.

I'm on my second round of Clomid/IUI so I'm keeping my fingers crossed this one sticks! :)

My RE said 4 cycles. We got pregnant on our third IUI.
