Poll:Should I get a lap or add Follistim Injections?

Ok I need everyone's help. As you can see from my siggy below, I had my 2nd IUI last week. I also met w/ RE for another consult. He said both DH & I are perfect and on paper we should be pregnant!! He said hopefully this IUI gives me a :bfp: and I won't have to worry about anything else! Amen!! But, if it fails then I have 2 options: I can get a lap OR add Follistim injections to my Femara/Trigger/IUI. He said I have no signs of endo at all. I told him that often I have some pain during BD but he said that didn't seem to him to pose a problem. I'm producing mature eggs every cycle. He said it is TOTALLY up to me with what I choose to do.

So do you all think I should get a lap or move to injections? (re: I have unexplained infertility.)

Thanks everyone!!! And I hope we all get our :bfp: s!!

I'm all for a lap. It's an easy surgery with a week's recovery at the most. And just because you don't have symptoms doesn't mean you don't have endo. Trust me. I rarely have any pain at all. But my endo was bad enough to block both tubes in less than 3 years. Why waste $$ on injectables when you haven't investigated every possible problem. If you're all clear than you can proceed knowing that your chances are very good.

Lap first, then Follistim. You wanna make sure all is clear and ok before spending the money on injectables and maybe wasting more time.

I agree.... go for the lap. Better to rule out any unforseen issues before spending all the money on more IUIs/injectibles.

This is an interesting question that I've wondered myself. What if you've had an HSG that was all clear? I'm in the same position (though I'm taking a break this cycle). Two IUI's with clomid and BFNs. Though my FSH is slightly elevated (10 at day 3), doc says we should get pregnant. I had an HSG a few months ago that came back all clear. My concern is that my sister had endo - I've read that that increases my risk. I was thinking about getting a lap done but was a little concerned about the cost.

You know, many doctors and medical researchers would agree that the diagnosis of unexplained infertility is inconclusive/incomplete until you have had a lap and have been reassured that it is not endo or other stuff causing infertility, since those thinks are not discovered by ultrasounds and in most cases endo does not have any symptoms at all.

This whole time I kept on pushing the procedure away since I did not want to wait for the appointment for so long, but now I'm glad I did.
I did not want to “throw away” my money on second IVF without doing additional diagnostics and maybe find what is causing my "unexplained infertility.

Honestly I understand your frustrations, but I would recommend doing lap first, they might find some answers for you.

I have unexplained infertility as well. In September 2007 we were referred to RE. We both did many test which all came back with great results. I ovulate on my own every 13-14 cycle day, my cycles are 28 days like a clock. My progesterone is fine. We also had great results of SA of my husband and well as good results of Semen DNA Fragmentation, I had Sonohysterogram test...so WE"RE UNEXPLAINED!

I hate this diagnosis. So we did 3 natural/under observation cycles. Then two Clomid/IUI cycles and BFN. So we did our first IVF in May/June'08 - BFN. IVF did not reveal any problems at all and my eggs were good quality with normal fertilization...embryos were grade 1 with even cell division, no fragmentation...

Just recently I did my last test just to put my mind at ease that we've explored everything before going into round two. So Aug 5 I had my laporoscopy, hysteroscopy & hysterosalpingogram (HSG) which revealed that my tubes are indeed open. The uterus, fallopian tubes, and ovaries are of normal size, shape, and color. There is no blood in the abdomen, no hernias, no intestinal obstruction. No endometriosis found. No adhesions. No uterine fibroids, no areas of active bleeding, no scar tissue is found in the uterus. Perfect lining, Everything looks very good.

Back to square one....

I'm still unexplained but at least I have a weight of my chest knowing that I for sure do not have endometriosis.

Best of luck!
