OK..so I had my baseline u/s today. Lining is 5.9 and 4 "quiet" antrals on the right and 3 "quiet" antrals on the left. What does that mean??? I start the meds tonight and start using OPK's on Sunday. Next u/s is on Wednesday the 16th. I've been posing this question..but DH has MFI- motility & morph, since IUI can assist with motility, I should still be concerned with morph, right? Does that mean that the sperm can't penetrate the egg and fertilize? I'm so lost right now and my brain is being negative!!! :(

wannab...from how I understand it...the baseline U/S is just to make sure you don't have any active follicles growing or cysts before starting the meds. Giving meds on top of having a cyst is dangerous. The lining measurement does not matter until they are about to actually inseminate you. Most RE's like to see it reach 9 or above on the day of trigger (are you doing a HCG trigger shot). Maybe you are not because you are using OPK's. The purpose of washing the sperm is to get rid of all the dead and "none performing" sperm. Your husband will have some good swimmers in there on the day of your insemination to get you pregnant!

Thanks Fitt!!! So, I think I am doing a trigger- is that the Ovidrel? IDk why she wants me to start using OPK's on Sunday..maybe because my periods have been a little off on timing lately???

But that makes sense with the wash! Thanks soooo much!!!!

Wannab....they will also tell you on the day of the insemination what the motility and the volume is of the sperm. If not ask them. Motility they like to see over 20 mil and volume over 25 mil. I believe those are the correct numbers.

They should be able to tell by your ultrasounds if you are nearing ovulation based on the size of your follicles. They usually trigger you (yes the ovidrel) when the follicles hit 18mm. Your OPK's should not be positive at the time of the trigger. If by chance it is they may do the IUI the very next day instead of 2 days after trigger or they may do a double IUI. I know that all RE are different. This is just what my office usually does.

Keep us posted!

Thanks Fitt! Makes a lot of sense. Now I'm afraid of DH's motility count. Iknow his #'s are great- but I guess we will just have to see. I know for sure my RE does NOT do double IUI's..I had asked originally just to increase chances..but nope.

Hey ladies. Havent' checked in for awhile...i tested yesterday morning...BFN. I had my beta yesterday as well but haven't heard back yet. Obviously I am expecting it to be negative. I did have a bout of nausea yesterday so of course that made me rethink...but that is just silly since I should have had a positive by then. I am 13dpiui today. Sounds like there are a few of us who will be doing natural cycles next month. I am going to wait till the summer to do anything else with the RE...if I even do it then. I really put a lot of hope into IUI so I just feel hopeless at this point. I hate unexplained infertility. Cycle after cycle I hear that everything is perfect and that DH's sperm is amazing and yet BFN for 23 cycles now.

anyway, sorry for the rant!

Good luck to the rest of you:)

Hthr... Don't give up hope. You are fertile and you know your body can do this. So that's the good news!!! When you age some woman develop a tougher shell around their eggs. So maybe it's just a matter of getting an egg with a softer shell??? Who knows.

Persistence is the key to everything in life.

Hi Ladies,
Sorry I haven't been able to post much. It's been busy lately. I just got back from my cd10 appointment. The good news is that I have 4 nice follies :), the bad news is my lining is only a 5.1. They like for it to be around a 8 :(. They want to put me on estrogen patches to help build it up. I start those tonight. And they also did bloodwork to measure my E2 levels. They are going to call me back sometime today to let me know the results of the b/w and when to trigger. They said my IUI will either be tomorrow or Sat. depending on b/w results. What do y'all think about the lining situation? Is there any hope? It's never been that thin but then again I've never gone in this early for an u/s. They didn't mention anything about cancelling it. I'd hate to have to cancel with all the money we spent on the medicine.

gingy-sorry, i can't help much...i don't know anything about lining and they never mention mine.

Nurse from RE called today and said Beta was negative and that my progesterone was all the way down to 9.5...weird since I was using a supplement. She asked if I was going to do another cycle and I said not right now but that I wanted to know if they had any insight as to why I am not getting pregnant. She said that she had to go get me chart to see what the Dr.'s orders were and said that my chart said that my next step wasn't another IUI, but a consult with the RE. She then asked what RE I see there and I said I have never met with one and she gave a surpised "What, you've never met with a doctor?" Then I was on hold again and she came back and gave me an appointment and said I had to ask all questions to the Dr. So I now have an appointment March 28.

gingy...I used the estrogen patches before to build my lining. A thin lining is a huge issue for implantation. So lets hope that the estrogen does its job to plump it up! I am not sure how fast the estrogen patches work. Also the trigger shot will also help to build the lining. Hang in there!

Heather...I can't believe you never consulted with a RE before any of your procedures? What if you have blocked tubes or some other issue where IUI would not work. That would be a complete waste of money. I can't recall but weren't you having problems with them in the past too? How frustrating. I also sorry about your negative beta.

Hi Gingy- The way I understood it with my RE (I went in for a baseline yesterday and I asked a ton of questions) she said typically when we are ready to O, they want to see the lining at around 10mm for good implantation. Did they check your estrogen level? Sometimes low estrogen might be the cause of the uterine walls not thickening up so I hope those patches work in time!

Heather- I agree with Fitt, it's a bit weird you haven't seen an RE prior. I hope all gets taken care of at your appt and that you have a solid plan of action & some answers! GL!

AFM, started Letrozele last night- WOW are the meds expensive- I got that and the prog supp and those were $40 alone! I couldn't get the trigger yet cuz it was $105! Crazy expensive! I had prog supps in the past, but it never cost this much- i wonder if i opt for a cheaper brand if it makes a difference...

wannabe-Meds are soooo expensive! The cost of Ovidrel went up as well. I got it for 86 one month and $105 the next and the pharmasist said the price had just gone up.

Gingy-Hope that lining thickens up:)

When I started at the RE office they had me meet with a lady who did consulations. She told me there was no reason to meet with the RE because I had already had a laproscopy and a hysteroscopy and a chromotubulation. She said it would take two months before I could meet the doctor because there are so many different offices and that it would be a waste of time because he would tell me the same thing she just had told me. So of course, me not wanting to waste two months time, went along with that. So its just as much my fault. I called my OBGYN and asked to be put back on birth control. The nurse asked me how the birth of my child was...I said...I still haven't gotten pregnant. She was all confused then!!! lol! The thing is, I got pregnant with DS while on the pill. I had taken two packs of pills in a row to skip my period while on a trip to california to see my best friend. Then when I got back I stopped taking them and it was the week of placebo pills that I guess I got pregnant. So...maybe it will work again? I don't know. I just need a break and think maybe it will give me a break and help with my hormones. I just have a feeling the Dr. is going to tell me IVF is my only option.

Call Walgreen's speciality pharmacy 1800-876-4545. Tell them you are a cash client and want to get pricing. I called a million Pharmacies and they were the cheapest around. The do free overnight shipping on orders over a certain amount.

My meds cost about $1800 per medicated IUI cycle. Fortunately the insurance picks up the cost of the progesterone so I only have to pay out of pocket for the FSH about $950 and $59 for the HCG trigger.
